8 hair colours you can get in Singapore that don’t require bleaching
Yes, we get it! Vibrant hair colours are oh-so-gorgeous to look at and you are seriously considering booking an appointment with your hairstylist to get it done.
But before do, just remember one of the major consequences of dyeing vibrant hues is that bleaching can often damage your hair and requires lots of maintenance.
For those of you who LOVE to perm and rebond your hair (and therefore can’t bleach), here’s a list of hair colours you can consider for the festive season that DO NOT require bleaching…
UPDATE: We’ve just updated this list of hair colours and added more colours to the list.
1. Grayge (Gray Balayage Brown)
We may not be able to get grey without bleaching…

But you still can get these grey-brown shades without bleaching…

2. Ash Brown
A lot of stylists say that we must bleach to achieve ash brown hair colour.
Ash Brown by Bump by AVENTA @ River Valley
But it doesn’t seem to be so at these Japanese salons.
No Bleach Ash Brown by Rubik Salon @ Outram Park
Do, however, note that the ash brown colour may not be possible for everyone – those who have coloured their hair brown before will find it easier to achieve this hair colour.
3. Reds
Maroon Red by RuleR Japanese Hair Salon @ Circular Rd
Believe it or not, red is one of those hair colours that don’t require bleaching as well.
No Bleach Red by De Salon @ Bugis
And it’s an eye-catching colour just like vibrant hair colours.
No Bleach Copper by Rubik Salon @ Outram Park
If you are not entirely sure about red hair, try it with red highlights first and see if it suits you.

4. Rose Gold (ROLD)
Rose Gold (ROLD) by Hair by Xavier Leong
The issue with red hair colours is that they leave a red undertone. So if you intend to change hair colour after that, you may have to bleach your hair in order to get rid of the red undertone.
However, Hair by Xavier Leong has created a new Rose Gold hair colour (suitable for festive seasons like CNY) called ROLD. Inspired from Apple’s Pink Gold, Xavier created this colour with soft pre-lightening, gold tones and finally, pink to achieve the hair colour above. On top of looking beautifully vibrant, this hair colour leaves near to zero red undertones.

5. Purple Hues
Picasso Hair Studio @ Bugis Haji Lane
Another funky colour to dye your hair is purple. Unlike pastel purple, a bold shade of purple doesn’t require bleaching but still exudes class and is a head turner. It is also a very wearable colour that still looks professional.
CLEO Hair & Make @ Clarke Quay The Central
There are different shades that you can go for like this lavender rose colour by CLEO Hair & Make.
No Bleach Purple by De Salon @ Bugis
Now tell us this doesn’t tempt you to dye your hair just as much as those pastel powdery hues would.
6. Ash Green
Who would have thought green of all colours would make the list of hair colours that don’t require bleaching!
Picasso Hair Studio @ Bugis Haji Lane
Maybe because no bleaching is required and the colour is so unique, green is actually one of the most requested colours last year.
No Bleach Ash Green by De Salon @ Bugis
Not all hair salons are adept at handling ash greens without bleaching so head down to Picasso Hair Studio or De Salon @ Bugis and ask the professional.
Olive Brown by Follicle Salon @ Ngee Ann City
If green is a bit much for you, you can always choose to opt for Olive Brown that will give an ashy brown look after the olive green fades.
7. Brown on Brown
It’s no surprise that brown shades would make the list but most of the time brown hair colour is considered to be safe and boring. But, there are several ways to change it up and stand out from the crowd.
This 3D hair colour by AVENTA Hair Salon certainly turns it up a notch with a unique technique that adds fluidity to the hairstyle.
No Bleach Highlights by Focus Hairdressing
Focus Hairdressing does it right by lifting the highlights without using bleach. The lighter shade of brown definitely enhances the overall look with a subtle contrast that doesn’t look tacky at all.
Branche Hair Salon @ City Hall Capitol Piazza
Light brown highlights added to brown hair can brighten up the entire look and give off a natural sun kissed vibe. Japanese salons tend be really good with blending lighter shades of brown with darker ones and if brown hair is what you are going for, you can try out Art-Noise Japanese Hair Salon at Holland Village.

Natural Ash Brown by CLEO Hair & Make @ Clarke Quay The Central
For those who love going for the subtle, CLEO Hair & Make does a fantastic job at blending in ash brown at the roots for a natural look.
8. Mix ‘n’ Match
Using more complex techniques, your hairstylist can mix and match colours and do some magic to make simple hair colours look really sophisticated, like this hand-pressed colour.
99 Percent Hair Studio @ Bugis Haji Lane
Of course, you can always fall back to ombre brown and red for a seamless gradation.
No matter which colour you choose, stylists at COVO Japanese Hair Salon say that you will get a more vivid result the more times you dye the same colour.
The second time colouring red, for example, will be brighter than the first and the third time brighter than the second.
If you want to know which colour will give you a more vivid result, it may be best to check with the stylist to see which of the colours are strongest for your natural colour base.
Do keep in mind that all coloured hair, whether bleached or not, tends to wash off over time, so remember to use colour shampoo to lengthen the lifespan of your hair colour, especially for reds, greens and purples!
