5 curve-friendly festival outfits Alessia's lovingAlessia Golfetto

Festival season is well underway ppl (hi, Glastonbury!). Cue the age-old question, "What on earth am I gonna wear to spend the day dancing in a field?" With the mission of making your summer wardrobe choices a whole lot easier, I've got you covered with top tips and shopping picks that I guarantee will get you in the festival mood.

Let me preface this by confessing I’ve never been much of a festival gal. I hate being hot and dusty, having to suffer through chub rub and sore feet, BUT I’ve been to my fair few events in recent summers and I can confidently say that I’ve been converted… If I have the right outfit on that is.

For me, it’s about wearing something comfortable enough to dance in all day yet chic enough that I feel confident doing so. I run hot and I am an eternal optimist for sunny forecasts, so my 'fit also needs to be sweatproof and breathable. And finally, my look needs to be super colourful and vibrant – after all, what better setting is there to have fun with fashion?

If you're plus-size, you'll know the difficult reality of shopping when you're curvy and it’s virtually impossible to find cute festival outfits that fulfil all these categories. Well, I’ve done the hard work for you and put together five fun festival outfits *anyone* could recreate, no matter your usual style MO. I rarely see typical festival 'fits on bodies that look like mine, so I'm here to challenge societal norms and most importantly, provide answers to your fashion woes.

Whether you’re a seasoned festival-goer or planning for your first time, these looks will ensure you feel fabulous and confident every step of the way. Flower crowns optional.

1. Cute co-ord

I LOVE a co-ord set for any event because the outfit is already put together for you. Sure, you can wear each item separately too for a look that still eats, but when it comes to festival fashion a matching two-piece will be your secret weapon. No more trying to work out if your top goes with your trousers in the darkness of your tent, this is a grab-and-go situation.

This fishnet hoody and skort set is from one of my fave independent brands, Myae Myae. It's made to order to your custom sizes – a plus size win-win! – and consists of a hooded top for when you get cold in the evening (or just want to slip into incognito mode) and a cute rah-rah ruffle skirt moment with built-in shorts. Myae releases new drops periodically, but if you’re in a rush for a co-ord I’ve found the next best thing for you to dance all day and night in:

2. A breezy boho dress

Sometimes you just want to live out your 2014 dreams and cosplay as Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella and that is absolutely fine. Our Coachella kween understood the easy breezy assignment and made floaty boho dresses her festival outfit staple. Taking inspo from V-Hudg, I've styled a summer dress open over a pair of jorts to bring some edge to the look.

3. Lace and denim

Typically when I think of festivals, cowboy boots automatically come to mind. Not only are they super practical, but they go with just about everything – even my lace booty shorts. Introducing contrasting textures is an easy style win and this lace design puts a feminine twist on the Westerncore look when styled with my trusty denim jacket.

A lace number is my favourite way to show a lot of skin while still feeling comfortably covered up, but if this two-piece is a little too risqué for you, try switching it up with a lace dress or skirt. Plus, you don’t have to put your knickers on show if you don't want to. Layer your trusty anti-chafing shorts underneath and voilá!

4. Sparkling sequins

When in doubt, sparkle it out! If all else fails and I'm struggling to find an outfit, my go-to is a sequin skirt and tank top combo. A basic white cami will tone down the sequins so you don’t feel too OTT, though there's definitely nothing wrong with being the shiniest star at the festival. Why should the performers get to have all the fun when I’m gonna be singing all day too?

5. Crochet all day

What better time for the boho revival than festival season?! If the floaty dress look I styled above is too girly for you, crochet is a really great alternative way to tap into the trend. And good news because the high street is full of woven pieces RN, from crochet bikinis to beach cover-ups to tops.

For something easy and effortless (because you likely already have them in your wardrobe) throw on a tank top and maxi/midi skirt, adding a crochet layer to complete the 'fit. A knitted bag is the perfect finishing touch, tying in with the home-made feel of my crochet cardi.
