1st popular Taiwanese outlet opens in the West

The popular Taiwanese Eat 3 Bowls 呷三碗 has opened its 4th outlet in Hillion Mall of Bukit Panjang. Conveniently located right above the Bukit Panjang MRT, this small and quaint outlet has several small tables.

Similar to the other outlets, one of the must-eats is the Eat 3 Bowls (S$14.50). It consists of 3 different bowls the Braised Pork Rice (S$5.80 by itself), Chicken Rice (S$5.80 by itself) and the Oyster Intestines Mee Sua (S$8.50 by itself), kind of like a whiskey flight but for Taiwanese bowls instead.

The star of the show was the Braised Pork Rice which features generous portions of tender minced pork belly slowly braised in a rich, savoury-sweet sauce made with soy sauce. This sauce along with its meat is doused on the rice giving it that sticky, melt-in-your-mouth feeling. This dish struck a perfect balance of sweetness, saltiness, and umami, embodying the essence of Taiwanese home-cooked meals.

The Mee Sua on the other hand, a signature Taiwanese classic, features a strong bonito-flavoured broth that encapsulates the velvety smooth mee sua. In it are plump oysters and cleaned-out intestines. Unlike other Mee Sua, they also topped it with a dollop of minced garlic which gives more depth of flavour and prevents it from being too suffocating.

One that you won’t find anywhere else is their Taiwanese Cold Noodle (S$6.20). With a slice of lime and a packet of peanut sauce on the side, this was very refreshing. The noodles were also cooked to perfection with a nice chew to it.
