13Units Hong Kong Cafe — Get free mini tiles at mahjong-themed cha caan teng in JB

I’m not sure why, but the old Hong Kong-style cha caan teng is always so captivating. Even though they only sell simple dishes like macaroni and bread, I’m always up for it. If you share the sentiment, you shouldn’t miss 13Units Hong Kong Cafe in JB which has 2 outlets: one in Danga Utama and the other in Nusa Sentral.

13Units Hong Kong Cafe - Store front

Personally, I think the Danga Utama outlet has a stronger nostalgic Hong Kong vibe as compared to the one in Nusa Sentral, which leans more towards a minimalist style. The restaurants are thoughtfully renovated, featuring delicately designed booth seating which resembles those in Hong Kong cha caan teng.

13Units Hong Kong Cafe - Beverages

The restaurant is also mahjong-themed, with seats crafted in the style of the mahjong table. What’s more, most of their beverages come with a complimentary mini mahjong tile!

Try out the Hong Kong classics like Fresh Milk Red Bean Ice (RM10.80) and Salted Lemon 7up (RM6.80). Alternatively, you can go for the Mahjong Ice Cube Milk Tea (RM7.80), which includes an ice cube shaped like a mahjong tile. How cute!

13Units Hong Kong Cafe - Polobun and chee cheong fun

The Polobun with Butter (RM6.80) stands out as a crowd favourite. It features a crispy crust atop the bun and a thick crinkled butter. Another option to consider is the HK Chee Cheong Fun (RM5.80) with mixed sauces. Unlike the local chee cheong fun, the Hong Kong style incorporates sweet pasta sauce, peanut butter, and chilli sauce, resulting in a rich mouthfeel and flavour profile.

The menu boasts diverse options, but my words are limited. Therefore, just swing by 13Units Hong Kong Cafe and experience the offerings firsthand.
