10 best lok lok spots in Singapore that open till late just like JB
Oh, Johor Bahru, how much we miss you! If there’s one dining experience we pine dearly for, it’s got to be lok lok. For a Singaporean like me, it has got to be the adrenaline of jumping on an impromptu car ride to cross the border for late-night supper!
To refresh your memory (we know it’s been a while), lok lok is a popular street food found in several parts of Malaysia, comprising of skewered foods to be boiled in a steamboat, deep-fried, or grilled. It’s truly one experience that cannot be replicated from the comforts of our homes.
Until we’re finally given the green light to cross the border, here are the best lok lok spots in Singapore that also open late into the night.
1. Dai Lou (大佬)
Dai Lou boasts a stunning Punggol waterfront view located at Marina Country Club featuring both traditional and original creations of zi char and lok lok on their menu.
Their namesake ‘Dai Lou’ (Cantonese for a big boss) draws inspiration from gangs seen in classic Hong Kong action movies. Like how the ‘dai lou’ takes care of his men, the head chef of Dai Lou does the same for his diners.
Prices begin from as low as S$0.50 per skewer like their Corn Cob and Lady’s Finger. Each stick is colour coded at the end of the stick, indicating the prices of either S$0.50, S$1, S$1.50, or S$2. Naturally, meat and seafood lean to the costlier side.
Plus, this is one spot that nails it on the head with their superb sauces to pair with your savoury sticks. If you’re on the lookout for a chill supper place with food that goes amazingly well with chilled beers, this is definitely a go-to.

2. DLLM (Dinner Lok Lok Menu)
Bargain hunters, don’t skip on this. Short for Dinner Lok Lok Menu, every skewer sold by DLLM Lok Lok costs S$1 by default. Talk about getting a bang for your buck!
Enjoy sinful skewers from Taiwan sausages, smoked duck, and deep-fried squid dipped into their tangy and spicy chilli padi and lime sauce. It’s going to be a messy affair, but what’s not to love? Add on a pint or two and gather with your kakis and plan for the great supper escape.

3. Fat Po
If you’re a Whisk & Paddle fan, then you’d be stoked to know that the same folks own Fat Po, whose menu possesses more of an Asian twist. Yes, including lok lok!
For starters, the Loklok Salt+Pepper Set (S$10.80) definitely rose to the occasion. Despite the preconceived notion that barbecued meats usually end up dry, the prawns still retained their moisture. Although it didn’t quite have the full experience (we need sauces!), belachan as a dip made up as a good substitute.
Indeed, the location is a tad far from the hustle and bustle but it’s one worth a visit if you like lok lok and fusion cuisine.

Situated in kopitiam in Sengkang, Lok Lok Paradise hopes to bring authentic Malaysian lok lok to our shores.
They have a staggering 40 varieties of skewered items priced affordably between S$1 and S$2 and customers can also opt for their skewers to be deep-fried instead of boiled. Some of the sinful showstoppers include bacon enoki, cheese tofu, and crispy beancurd skin.
Lok Lok Paradise also provides six dipping sauces to pair with your sticks. With such variety in cooking methods and condiments, I don’t see how one can be bored here.

5. LOK不LOK Bistro
I’ve got to admit: lok lok is undeniably one of the best things to feast on with friends. I mean, the variety of skewers and sauces easily make any gathering more interesting. Good news for party planners like me, LOK不LOK Bistro’s got some of the best combos and variety for your next get-together.
Amidst the 30-odd skewers to choose from, the top picks are the Zai Er, Bakkwa, Broccoli & Fishroe Dumpling. Of course, they boast a range of savoury homemade sauces as well; MAMA Sibei 辣, MAMA Satay Sauce, VIET Garlic Sweet Sauce & DIDI 酸酸甜甜辣辣. which all paired really well with the lok lok! And the best part? Each skewer is just S$1!
Besides the usual suspects, they do offer fries and ramen as well, which make good options for friends who aren’t big fans of lok lok.

7. Malaysia Local Delights
Now, don’t be fooled by the simple shopfront. Just a stone’s throw away from the famous Ponggol Nasi Lemak in Tanjong Katong, Malaysia Local Delights serves rustic Malacca-style lok lok steamboat buffet and many other familiar Malaysian dishes.
Unlike many places that expose food on trays that often attract flies, this place uses glass fridges to showcase the wide variety of skewered vegetables, assorted meats, and sliced abalone.
Of the lot, some of our favourites were scallop, beef, and cheesy sotong balls. The spicy Thai fishcake skewer was decent with a good texture as well.
My favourite way of eating lok lok is dipping these ordinary skewers into the thick and nutty sauce to well, make it extraordinary. The satay sauce complemented the meat skewers most, as compared to seafood. If barbecued satay skewers are too greasy for your liking, this might be a healthier alternative for you.
Supper spots are aplenty, but Malaysian Local Delights is a reasonably priced place with hearty lok lok variety that makes for a good chill spot in the Katong vicinity.

8. Stick Together Lok Lok
Enter Stick Together Lok Lok, which is located in a coffee shop just a short walk from East Coast Park. I’ve heard plenty about its unique skewers and much to my surprise, a great escape for get-togethers after an afternoon of beach fun, or a casual pitstop before a romantic sunset date. Plus, I’ve heard nothing but praises for its unique skewers.
Their sticks are colour-coded for price, with uncoloured (S$1 per stick), green (S$1.50 per stick), and red (S$2 per stick) ones. A visual menu of all the sticks they have makes it clear for your selection, though the sticks available then were a tad limited. But their interesting sauce combinations made up for this.
They offer two complimentary sauces—Thai sweet chilli and Thai seafood chilli sauce. With every S$10 spent, you’ll get a free crafted premium sauce, of either Laoganmayo, Tom Yumayo, or Wasabee. No prizes for guessing the ingredients in each portmanteau.
It’s not your average lok lok, another iteration that deepens our missing for JB. But rather, a free-spirited approach: where ingredients are canvases and their sauces are paint mixtures. Paint them however you’d like.

9. The Lok Lok Bar
If it’s not obvious enough from the name, The Lok Lok Bar along Beach Road offers the Malaysian favourite—lok lok. Skewers make, for perhaps, the most perfect sharing food.
Unlike other lok lok spots which open in the evening till late, The Lok Lok Bar starts from 11am daily. No need to wait till the sun’s almost down to satisfy your cravings!
So what’s on the menu? Perhaps the better question is what isn’t. One can expect an astounding assortment of skewered meats and vegetables, so there’s bound to be something for everyone. Choose from various fishcakes, tofu, hotdogs, seaweed chicken, and even sticks of roast pork belly.
A slick and sick escape to chill, mingle, and most important of all, pig out on a variety of food.

10. 早乐 Zaolek Lok Lok
Just like Thai street food, lok lok is slowly making waves here in Singapore. We’re known to have a penchant for fried food and steamboats, and with Zaolek Lok Lok, you get the best of both worlds.
In fact, you’ll get to also enjoy their selection of meat, seafood and vegetable grilled skewers! It might be a bit of a doozy trying to locate Zaolek Lok Lok, given that’s snugly hidden in an industrial building, but that’s where its charm is.
On weekdays, their lok lok buffet is priced at S$24 for adults and S$12 for children. From Fridays to Sundays, however, prices cost a bit more with adults at S$27 and children at S$13.50. Not keen on signing up for the buffet deal? You can also pick and choose each skewer at a la carte prices of S$2 per three sticks. There are no hidden charges too!
There is a cap of 12 skewers per round of deep-frying, to ensure each batch can be consumed while still hot and crispy.
This hidden lok lok buffet spot is definitely a draw for those looking for a great deal away from the bustle of the usual dining crowds. Large families will also love the various options and variety of skewers, so there’s something for everyone. Consider your next gathering sorted!
