What I tried at 106 Clementi

Kicking off this list is EN Ramen (#01-44), a humble Japanese shop nestled in 106 Clementi. The shop is helmed by Chef Dennis, a former IPPUDO Ramen chef who trained under the guidance of IPPUDO’s Asia Executive Chef, Chef Hideki Miyazaki. After leaving the brand in 2018, he established EN Ramen, where he sells authentic Japanese dishes at affordable prices.

The Japanese Mapo Tofu Don (S$9.90) is a comforting yet flavourful dish to try— a bowl of rice is served with a generous amount of silky tofu and minced meat swimming within spicy mapo sauce. For a less fiery option, opt for the Gyu Don (S$10.90), which comes with sweet and savoury curry plus tender beef strips.

The EN Signature Ramen is a must-try dish— for just S$10, you’ll get to indulge in a soupy ramen dish with generous cha shu slices, minced meat and an onsen egg. The milky ramen has a surprising amount of kick to it and isn’t too salty either.

Perhaps you don’t feel like having Japanese food— how about Thai instead? Hom Tang Thai Restaurant is the perfect place to take the family as they offer a wide range of wallet-friendly Family Sets that will satisfy your cravings for Thai food.

Each Family Set costs only S$33.90 and comes with 4 dishes and 2 bowls of rice each. Family Set B includes a large Thai Style Spicy & Sour Steamed Seabass, Tom Yum Seafood Hotpot, Stir-fry Kailan with Oyster Sauce Mushroom, Thai Style Fish Cake and 2 bowls of Thai Fragrant Steamed Rice.

The Thai Style Spicy & Sour Steamed Seabass is absolutely outstanding— the flesh of the fish is incredibly tender and pulls apart easily, while the spicy & sour sauce is tart and flavourful. The Tom Yum Seafood Hotpot is equally as impressive as it comes with a generous amount of seafood within a fragrant and aromatic tom yum soup.

One of my all-time favourite prata joints is Springleaf Prata (#01-64)— I can’t get enough of their super innovative prata creations. If you feel the same, you’ll be excited to learn that there is a Springleaf Prata outlet at 106 Clementi serving all of the eatery’s popular treats!

Aside from offering their titular pratas, Springleaf Prata also has various rice and noodle dishes, such as the Nasi Goreng Kampong (S$6.90), a fragrant fried rice dish with plenty of chicken chunks and salty ikan bilis scattered throughout.

Give their Pandan Teh (S$3.50 for hot, S$4.50 for cold) a go too— the addition of pandan makes the teh evidently more aromatic. I couldn’t get enough of this!

If the usual prata kosong and egg pratas aren’t doing it for you anymore, how about getting the incredible Murtaburger (S$9.50 for single patty, S$12.50 for double patty)? This unique twist on the popular Ramly burger contains juicy lamb patties, black pepper sauce, chilli sauce and a heap of mozzarella, making each bite incredibly indulgent and unforgettable.
