10 most Instagrammable cafes in KL
Kuala Lumpur is home to an endless list of cafes that share 2 characteristics in common: gorgeously plated food and an Instagrammable friendly backdrop. I mean, good food and a nice environment for a moment of relaxation, is that too much to ask for? Plus, we could all do with a change of scenery, right? So whether you’re looking for cafes filled with greenery, flowers, or even friendly furry felines, I’ve got you covered.
I’m breaking down the 10 most Instagrammable cafes in KL, so you can have your pastries and photos in a picturesque backdrop. You can thank me later!
1. Kenny Hills Baker
What started off as a small coffee shop at Bukit Tunku has now expanded to 7 outlets across the Klang Valley— Kenny Hills Baker is the ultimate go-to spot for brunch (and Instagram-worthy photos) for many locals. Not only that, they even have a sister brand, Kenny Hills Coffee (which has 4 outlets). I highly recommend visiting the Jalan Ampang branch where all the pastries are freshly made and the coffee beans are roasted daily, which they deliver to all their outlets.
Start your day right with the Big Breakfast (RM38) featuring sauteed mushrooms, chicken sausage, homemade baked beans, homemade hashbrowns, your choice of eggs and protein, and organic toast and butter.
But if you arrive after 12pm, I suggest ordering from the selection of sourdough pizza — specifically the Sicilian (RM34 for 8 inches, RM46 for 12 inches). This wood-fired pizza is topped with anchovies, roasted peppers, mozzarella and spiced tomato sauce.
Don’t forget to sample some pastries and cakes as well. Some fan favourites include the Peach Strudel (RM18), Tiramisu (RM16), Pavlova (RM16), and the Chocolate Truffle Torte (RM16). You can order your choice of pastry or cake from the bakery counter (make sure to tell them your table number!) or order from the server from the comfort of your table.

2. The Lemon Tree
“And all that I can see is just another yellow lemon tree”. The lyrics to Fool’s Garden Lemon Tree are all that came to mind when I came across The Lemon Tree cafe in Tropicana Avenue.
Every corner here is Instagram-worthy, spanning across 1,700-square feet with high glass windows, a dome ceiling, and a huge artificial lemon tree that is placed as the centrepiece of the sun-bathed, bright space. The Lemon Tree menu covers a lovely list of sweet & savoury pastries to substantial meals such as Egg-Ceptional Organic Omelette with Truffle and Portobello Mushroom (RM28).

3. Dough By Meg
Who doesn’t love a big, fluffy bomboloni? At Dough by Meg, you can indulge in a wide variety of bomboloni made by scratch using the real, finest ingredients in small batches. This cosy cafe is located in Bukit Ceylon, away from the bustle of the city centre and is surrounded by greenery, perfect to hit pause, relax, and take a bunch of photos.
If you’re anything like me and are easily spoiled for choice, I recommend sampling the Baby Bombs Set (RM58). These fun-sized bombolonis come in a set with 7 different flavours — French Earl Grey, Classic Pistachio 2.0, Sesame Garlic Cream Cheese, Lemon Vanilla Sugar Glazed, Lime Cheese Meringue, Valrhona Dark Chocolate and Dulce de Leche, and Thai Milk Tea. Each bite-sized bomboloni is jam-packed with flavour.
Are you in the mood for a light snack? Try the Sourdough Grilled Cheese Sandwich with Tomato Soup (RM25) — a crispy sourdough bread with a melty blend of cheeses, perfectly complemented by the creamy and tangy notes of the tomato soup. It’s the perfect comfort meal, especially on a rainy day. Pair the soup and bread with a glass of Iced Caramel Macchiato with Whipped Cream (RM16) to complete your meal.

4. Lisette’s Café & Bakery
Looking for the perfect brunch aesthetic? Head over to Lisette’s Cafe & Bakery in Bangsar, Subang or 163 Retail Park, Mont Kiara. This restaurant exudes a chilled atmosphere surrounded by various flora and an interior that reminds me of my grandmother (in a good way).
You can never go wrong with a plate of Lisette’s Omelette (RM36) which is served with sausage, beef bacon, feta, mozzarella and parmesan cheese, mushrooms and truffle cream sauce on your choice of toast. Or opt for the Baked Eggs Shakshuka (RM28), Chicken Waffles (RM32), or Black Rice Nasi Lemak (RM30).
It’s a sin if you don’t try Lisette’s Shepherd’s Pie (RM30). Featuring minced lamb with carrots and peas topped with cheese sauce and mashed potatoes, this pie is oven-baked to order and will transport you into pie heaven.

5. Poppy Kat
Poppy Kat is a neighbourhood cafe where you can enjoy a hearty brunch, or a sweet snack, surrounded by 9 furry companions. Nestled in Cheras, this eatery has retro-style furnishing, complete with framed portraits of all the adopted cats.
The speciality here is the croffle, both the sweet and savoury kind. I highly recommend sampling the Japanese Curry with Fried Chicken Croffle (RM32) featuring 2 crunchy croffles, a juicy Poppy fried chicken chop, wasabi mayo, tobiko, and Japanese curry gravy with diced potatoes and carrots, served with a side of house salad.
If you have a sweet tooth, I recommend the Very Berry Croffle (RM17) — a croffle topped with raspberry whipped mascarpone, blueberry glaze, blueberries, sliced strawberries and dried cranberries. Don’t forget to quench your thirst with a glass of Bubu ChaCha (RM13) consisting of sweet purple potato, coconut milk, pandan, and dehydrated purple potato.
You can also bring along your cat while you chill out with Batman, Grey, Luna, Artemis, Spooky, Pudding, Peanut, Tweety, and Casper. How cute!
