10 food spots in Northpoint City that make Yishun great again [Dec 2024 update]

As a lifelong Yishunite, Northpoint has always felt like a second home to me. Back in primary school, I would head to the mall everyday after class to shop for snacks or to have a quick lunch with my classmates and friends. Over the years, Northpoint has expanded into Northpoint City, one of the biggest malls in Singapore with two wings and over 1.3 million square feet in space.

Of course, Northpoint City’s size means that it can fit a huge variety of restaurants, cafes and eateries to satisfy all the foodies who forage into the North. Here is a list of 10 places to check out in Northpoint City when you are feeling hungry.

1. POCHA! Korean Street Dining (#B1-181)

Located in the basement of Northpoint City, Pocha! is Singapore’s first K-food street dining concept. You’ll spot it when you look out for its bright red storefront and vibrant neon signage.

Pocha! adopts a communal-like style, with its menu being split into Mains, Rice, Jjigae, Noodles, Sides and Drinks. Classic Korean dishes include Bibimbab (S$8.90), Tteokbokki (S$11.90) and Jjajangmyeon (S$13.90).

Get the Bulgogi if you’re a meat lover. Available in 3 different sauces (Kimchi, Spicy Jeyuk, or regular bulgogi), choose from Pork (S$11.90), Beef (S$13.90) and Chicken (S$10.90).

Why not opt for some Jjigae, aka, Korean stews? The Sundubu (S$15.90 for pork, S$18.90 for seafood) includes ingredients like minced pork, tofu, clams, zucchini and enoki mushrooms, with a good depth of rich and savoury flavours, and a pleasant pepperiness that lifts up the entire soup.

If you’re in Northpoint City on a weekday before 5pm, check out Sakon Thai’s affordable Lunch Set, which comes with one main and a drink. From S$10.50++, choose from options like Thai Basil Chicken w/ Rice, Thai Honey Chicken w/ Rice, Thai BBQ Beef w/ Rice and Sweet & Sour Sliced Fish Fillet w/ Rice. Meanwhile, their S$11.90++ options include their Tom Yum Seafood Soup w/ Rice or Stick Noodle and Green Curry Chicken w/ Rice.

I tried the Thai Basil Chicken w/ Rice, which was saucy and satisfying with a light sweetness. The Thai Iced Milk Green Tea that I ordered in my set was also sweet and refreshing, making for a delicious and affordable meal.

Though CROLO by Swee Heng has expanded to many malls within Singapore, their very first outlet opened right here in Northpoint City back in 2021. What I love most about this quirky bakery is its incredible amount of creativity— every bake is a feast for the eyes and the mouth, with colourful, loaded croissants, croffles and cakes all lined up to be consumed.

My top pick is the Chicken Floss Salted Egg Lava Croissant (S$2.50), a savoury and sweet combination that marries a buttery croissant with unique Asian flavours. The Pistachio Chocolate Kunafa Croissant (S$2.50) and Kunafa Pistachio Brownie (S$4.80) are cool creations inspired by the viral pistachio kunafa chocolate bars.

A simpler treat would be the Crown Cream Cheese Tart (S$2.50), a crispy pastry encasing creamy, cheesy fillings. You can’t go wrong with that.

6. Feng Food (#B1-156/157)

Feng Food is one of my favourite places to dine at within Northpoint City, and one reason is that they don’t have service charge here— all prices displayed are nett, saving you the trouble of having to calculate the true cost of your meal. The extensive menu consists of Taiwanese delights ranging from soupy noodles to fried rice balls.

The Feng Food Deluxe Dry Noodles (S$15.30 / S$16.50) is a must-try dish, with saucy noodles topped with a juicy, tender pork cutlet, a fried egg and other ingredients. I wasn’t expecting this unassuming dish to be so tasty! Other dishes to fill yourself up with include Shrimp & Pork Wonton Noodles Soup (S$11.60 / S$12.80), Hakka-style Braised Meat Rice (S$10.60) and Signature Mee Sua (S$10.40).

If you’re feeling peckish, go for snack items like the Gua Bao (S$6.80) and Deep Fried Chicken with Salted Egg (S$14.80).

The ramen at Tonkotsu Kazan Volcano Ramen is unlike most other Japanese restaurants— their signature volcano ramen is served in a stone bowl and covered with a conical lid, allowing for steam to billow out from the top like a volcano. You’ll find this restaurant within Basement 1 of Northpoint City.

Seoul Garden in Northpoint City was a staple in my childhood, as I’d frequently visit them to enjoy their BBQ buffet with my family. It’s heartening to see that the business is still standing strong in the same area after all these years.

Buffets are split into 3 tiers: Regular (S$22.90++ / S$32.90++), Premium (S$32.90++ / 38.90++) and Supreme (S$46.90++).

The Premium menu includes meats like Beef Short Plate, Lamb Chop, Smoked Duck and Salmon Fillet, including a free-flow cheese dip. The Supreme menu, on the other hand, comes with Wagyu Karubi, US Beef Short Ribs and Tiger Prawns, among others. You definitely won’t want to miss out on that.
