10 best cake shops in Singapore for birthdays & other celebrations
Birthday cake, lah. Wedding cake, lah. Why? I say we need no excuse to have cake, lah! To celebrate this emancipation from cake control, I have compiled this list of what I feel (and taste) are the 10 best cake shops in Singapore.
Welcome to a world of sweet indulgence. It will take all my willpower but I promise not to use eyeroll-inducing phrases such as takes the cake and have your cake and eat it, too.
1. Lady M New York
Lady M New York is almost a quarter of a century old, a feat in itself considering the fickle desserts crowd. Their 5 locations are peppered across some of the most prestigious districts around Singapore. Heritage and postcode aside, it’s the creativity behind Lady M New York’s range of cakes that earned them our no.1 spot.
My favourite is undoubtedly the Slice of the Best, 9 inch (S$140), a medley of colours and flavours that appeals to the whimsical, indecisive me.
It combines 2 slices each of the brand’s all-time bestselling Mille Crepes: Signature, Chocolate, Green Tea, Pistachio, Rose and Tiramisu.
They have seasonal specials, too, and it is Lavender Mille Crepes, 9 inch (S$132) at time of writing. Its paper-thin crepes and lavender pastry cream surround a blackberry jelly centre. Organic lavender flowers and lavender-blackberry cream piping complete the look.

2. Cedele
Cedele turns 26 in 2023 and they have almost as many outlets as years in the cakes business. The company’s Eat Well – Be Well philosophy drives its commitment to using only the freshest natural ingredients.
Their Signature Cakes include the Carrot Walnut Cake (7 inch, S$68), Red Velvet Cake (7 inch, S$68) and Real Dark Chocolate Cake (6 inch, S$49).
Their locally-inspired cakes such as the Coconut Gula Melaka Cake (6 inch, S$52) and Ondeh Ondeh Cake (6 inch, S$52) are both delicious and visually creative.
They have an entire Matcha Cakes range that features the very green Pure Matcha Cake (7 inch, S$72) and the ultimate fusion Chocolate Matcha Cake (7 inch, S$72). Cedele’s Special Diet cakes include sugarless, eggless and vegan options.
Oh, yeah, and it’s pronounced suh-deli.

3. Chalk Farm
Chalk Farm has made quite a name for itself since it was founded over a decade ago. In that time, it has made quite the name for its cakes, cookies and even Nonya kuih. However, the cakes are where it all began and remains the best reason to visit.
Their Salted Caramel Red Velvet (S$108) was our choice for the boss man’s birthday party last year and it was just wonderful. It combines 2 of Chalk Farm’s most popular flavours, the Red Velvet (S$96) and the Salted Caramel Macadamia (S$85).
The blurb on the Salted Caramel Red Velvet page says that its 2.5kg equates to 12 servings. I assure you that we finished it in far fewer servings than that – it’s just that good! Moist and rich, just the way I like it.
Their 2 branches have a minimalist look and cosy feel, with friendly, attentive staff. Chalk Farm introduces seasonal treats every month so there’s always something to discover.

4. Edith Patisserie
A decade after it threw open its oven doors, Edith Patisserie has become a firm favourite on the local cake scene. Apart from a reliably wonderful list of the usual favourites, they also have the most adorable mini cakes. The 4″ Mini Heart Cake (from S$46.50) is a perennial favourite but they currently also have the Father’s Day 2023: 4″ Mini Father’s Day Cake (S$38.90).
With so much intricate design going into each of these smaller cakes, you can imagine how beautiful and detailed their bigger cakes are.
Edith Patisserie takes the most inclusive approach to its creations of any bakery I have seen. There are keto options such as the Keto Raspberries & Cream Cake (Sugar-Free) (from S$68.60) while vegans have the Vegan Raspberry, Lemon and White Chocolate Cake (Gluten-Free, Egg-Free, Dairy-Free) (from S$70.20), among others.
You can also get the very unique bubble tea tarts here, starting with the Bubble Tea Tarts – Box of Three (S$15.70).

5. Ugly Cake Shop
If ever there was a misnomer, Ugly Cake Shop is it. The unusual title alludes to their decision to not use artificial colouring, artificial flavours, fondant or gum paste; while these additions make cakes pretty, they can be harmful.
I am almost embarrassed to say that the cake I love most of all here is the kid-oriented Melissa – Strawberry & Valrhona Dark Chocolate Cake (from S$40.00). There is such simple elegance in this dual tone creation! Its Valrhona chocolate cake layers and strawberry buttercream made from real strawberry puree are divine.
Just slightly more elaborate but still beautiful for its imperfections is the Juliana Cake – Salted Caramel Cake with Sea Salt Flakes (from S$60.00). It also comes as an adorable little cupcake (S$3.80).
If you’re into heart-stopping cuteness, there is just one cake that you will ever need from The Ugly Cake Shop: Claire – Mini Penguin Cake (S$100).

6. The Durian Bakery
The Durian Bakery is a relatively new player in the Singapore cakes game but it has carved a niche for itself that much older specialists have not. As the name suggests, the crux of the game is the King of Fruits.
At the top of the range is their Signature Mao Shan Wang Mille Crepe Cake (S$108)
. This deceivingly simple-looking creation has been judged Singapore’s premier durian cake by several aficionados. It is a mille crepe cake comprising 20 layers of thin handmade crepe skin. Between each layer is a generous filling of their signature MSW SilkyGold Durian Puree. The combination is mind-blowing.
A much more modest option is the Cloud Mine MSW Cake (Mini 4-inch cake) (S$38). The Durian Bakery’s signature Mao Shan Wang (MSW) filling teams up with fresh cherries and the moistest chocolate fudge that you can find. The result is a heavenly cake bursting with exotic goodness in each bite.
They are only offering pickup services at their location, so do let them know beforehand of your visit!

7. Fluff Bakery
Fans of cheesecake like yours truly will adore the Basque Burnt Cheesecake (6 inch, S$45; 9 inch, S$78). This Spanish cheesecake is characterised by its charred-in-a-good-way top and decadently oozy centre.
For a taste of something closer to home, the Pandan Gula Melaka Cake (6 inch, S$45; 9 inch, S$80) hits the sweet spot just right. Its pristine white colour just adds to the appeal. I’d be lying by omission if I didn’t also mention that the Ferrero Rocher Cake (6 inch, S$50; 9 inch, S$90) is absolutely divine.
Apart from the whole cakes, Fluff Bakery also has Breads & Pastries, Cookies & Granola, Cupcakes & Donuts, Small Bakes, and Gelato Pints. If it’s a party you want, it’s exactly what they’ll give you with the Dessert Table (S$180). Meant for 25 people, it’s a package of 20 Mini Cupcakes, 20 Shots, 25 Mini Nutella Cheesecake Bars and 25 x Brownie Bites.

8. Butter Studio
The Butter Studio brand is built around the celebration of celebrations. Its founders take inspiration from the recipes of their grandmothers, and honour that knowledge with handmade artisanal treats.
The Caramel Popcorn Overload (6 inch, S$68; 8 inch, S$88; 10 inch, S$118) is the perfect example. Its layers of Red Velvet cake sponge are filled with cream cheese frosting, then coated with a luxurious layer of homemade salted caramel drizzle. Wafer cones and delicious caramel popcorn complete the decadent look of this delectable masterpiece.
My favourite, though, is the Mermaid Dreams Cake (6 inch, S$68; 8 inch, S$88). Its magical pastel frosting immediately alludes to adventures under the ocean while the series of chocolate fins completes the fantasy.
I couldn’t help but get the matching Mermaid Fantasy Cupcake, too. All their cupcakes are S$4.30 each, S$12 for 3, S$22 for 6, S$42 for 12. Their menu also includes Coffee, Botanical Iced Teas, Hot Tea and Milkshakes.

9. FLOR Patisserie
Unbelievable as it may seem, not a speck of baking powder is used in the cakes and pastries at FLOR Patisserie. There is no place for any artificial stabilisers, agents or preservatives, either. This Japanese-styled patisserie serving authentic Japanese-inspired French pastry uses only the freshest and highest quality ingredients sourced from countries such as Japan, Belgium, France, Malaysia and Thailand.
I find FLOR Patisserie’s creations sublimely ethereal in their gentle beauty. There is always colour, always, texture, and always a harmonious combination. They range from the deceptively simple-looking Fruitier (from S$35.65) to the delicately intricate Princess Deco (from S$70.20). The latter is especially mesmerising, with her flowing lacy dress made of sponge, strawberries and fresh cream. The sugar princess figurine is imported from Japan; she is made with royal icing and natural colours from soybean.
I also like the Happy Farm (from S$48.60), which is a fruit shortcake base with little animal-shaped cookies grazing its surface.

10. Bloomsbury Bakers
Bloomsbury Bakers occupies a rather nondescript spot at the void deck of an HDB block along Bendemeer Road. Don’t let the locale fool you— it’s the brainchild of alumni of the Le Cordon Bleu London culinary school.
Bloomsbury Bakers hilariously call the Chocolate Pecan & Coconut Cake (from S$40.00) “a party in your mouth”. There certainly is a lot happening in this outwardly very refined and elegant cake, the result of a combination of chocolate cake, sea salt caramel buttercream, toasted pecans and coconut flakes. What a luscious union of the different flavours and textures!
I couldn’t help but look again when I came across the name Honey Calamansi Pineapple Cake (From S$50). Like, every one of the 4 things in that name is my favourite! To be precise, you will find Genoise sponge, calamansi curd, honey mousse, pineapple cubes, almond crumble and dehydrated pineapple flower. I’m salivating already!
Bloomsbury Bakers has distinctly local cakes, including Orh Nee (Yam) Cake (from S$50) and Pulut Hitam Cake (S$60).
