Being an adult is stressful. You have to work. You have to pay bills. You must bravely face the state of the world every single day—the pandemic and lack of a new Rihanna album alike. Well, Zooey Deschanel's daughter is already over all of it. As the actor explained on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, her 5-year-old daughter, Elsie, wants to be a cat when she grows up.

After Barrymore asked in an extremely Drew Barrymore way about Elsie being a cat fan, Deschanel explained that her daughter loves cats so much she plans on becoming one herself. For Elsie, it's not a question of if, but when.

"She's, like, obsessed with cats. Obsessed," Deschanel said. "What's really funny is that she likes anything sparkly, so if I wear something with sparkles on it, she’ll say, 'I love that mommy.' And I'll say, 'When you grow up, I'll save it for you. You can have it." And she goes, 'But I'm going to be a cat when I grow up.'"

At that point, Deschanel just goes along with it and says things like, "You'll be a cat, so we’ll cut it down to cat size and make it a cat sweater."

Deschanel posted the clip of her talking about her daughter on Instagram, and her followers can definitely relate to Elsie's plan — either because their kids want to be animals or because they'd like to become a cat themselves.

"She’s on the right track because human adulting is probably way less fun than cat adulting!" wrote one fan. "LUCKYYY, I wish I could be a cat," wrote another. One follower shared of their own child, "OMG my daughter is the exact same. She 'turns into' a cat whenever she is upset and has said she wants to be a cat instead of a person."

These kids know what's up. If only we could all turn into a sparkly top wearing cat when we're upset.
