Zhou Libo denies going to prison for 41 years

16 Nov – Chinese comedian Zhou Libo, who was previously arrested for possessions of weapon and drugs in New York, recently denied reports that he has been sentenced to 41 years of imprisonment.

As reported on Tencent, on 15 November, the comedian released his statement on Weibo saying, "Regarding the negative news that appeared online about me, some are just clichés taken out of context, and some are just exaggerated speculations. There are also personal attacks that are defaming to my character."

Zhou stated while he would usually ignore such rumours and words written about him, he stressed that one should not be breaking the law upon doing so, otherwise he will exercise his "civil rights to defend myself and my interests".

"We have the freedom of expression, but everyone should have a boundary to their freedom to express themselves, that is, not to create rumours and slander. When you break this boundary, you have to pay the price for your words and deeds. This is justice," he added.

The result to his case is yet to be released.
