Zhang Jiajia is thankful to Wong Kar Wai

26 Oct - Zhang Jiajia admitted that Wong Kar Wai was a big help in completing his very first directorial effort, "See You Tomorrow" (previously reported as "The Ferryman").

According to Mingpao News, the writer-turned-director, who attended the promotional event of the movie in Beijing recently, recalled that when he first met Wong, the latter asked him what kind of movie that he likes.

"I said [Wong Kar Wai's] "Ashes of Time" and [Stephen Chow's] "A Chinese Odyssey". He asked me, "Then would you want to make "Ashes of Time" or "A Chinese Odyssey?" I said, "Can I use Stephen Chow's method in telling a Wong Kar Wai story?" said Zhang.

He then revealed that Wong finally decided to help him with his first film – a Stephen Chow-like comedy with a bit of Wong Kar Wai touch.

Zhang also shared that he didn't believe in himself at first, and asked Wong to be on the set from beginning to end so that he could guide him.

"I didn't expect him to spend three years on the set, from the beginning to the end, and teach me how to make a movie himself," he added.

The movie stars Tony Leung, Takeshi Kaneshiro, Angelababy, Eason Chan, Ma Su, and many more.
