‘Zero Days’ Premiere Moved Up As Showtime Rides Cyberwarfare Wave

You might have seen a headline or 12 about cyberwarfare recently. Showtime certainly has, and today the premium cabler moved up its TV premiere date for the Alex Gibley-helmed documentary Zero Days by two weeks to November 5 — three days before the election.

The film, which premiered at Berlin in February, tells the story of Stuxnet, a self-replicating computer malware that the U.S. and Israel unleashed to destroy a key part of an Iranian nuclear facility but ultimately spread beyond its intended target. The clandestine mission hatched by two allies with clashing agendas opened the Pandora’s box of cyberwarfare.

The premiere-date move comes amid fallout from the hack of the Democratic National Committee, which Russia is alleged to be behind, and Wikileaks’ subsequent release of emails that have dinged Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.

Zero Days is produced by Gibney’s Jigsaw Productions and Global Produce’s Marc Shmuger and executive produced by Jeff Skoll and Diane Weyermann of Participant Media and Sarah Dowland. Gibney won an Oscar for his docu Taxi to the Dark Side, was nominated for Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room and also helmed last year’s Steve Jobs: The Man in the Machine and Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.
