The unveiling of a new waxwork is often a trepidatious experience, and the latest waxy incarnation of Zac Efron is no exception.

Perhaps because the Berlin branch of Madame Tussauds appear to have crafted it from a spare waxwork of Maroon 5’s Adam Levine they had in the back.

The wispy facial hair is also slightly creepy. But then so is making effigies of celebrities out of wax.

As is customary, the statue has been unveiled around the release of its subject’s latest movie, for maximum publicity, in this case, the movie remake of ‘Baywatch’.

Efron’s co-star, Dwayne Johnson, who is taking on the original David Hasselhoff role of Mitch Buchannan, the head lifeguard who butts heads with Efron’s washed up athlete Matt Brody.

Johnson has explained how the original ‘looks like children’s TV’ compared to this new, R-rate interpretation.

“We are far dirtier than the show ever was – obviously the show was a family show on at family time of day – but in the movie we could have been dirtier,” he told The Sun.

“I think people are going to be shocked that Baywatch has got dirty – but there are a lot of laughs.

“We worked hard to make sure the flesh quota was high, there’s more gratuitous boobs, bums, abs, whatever per minute than you can imagine. Plot was important, don’t get me wrong, but so was sorting out our slow motion runs.

“There’s less chest hair though but I like to think I have done the TV show justice in other ways. We have the Hoff on board keeping that vibe going.”

Also starring Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach and Priyanka Chopra, and featuring a cameo from Hasselhoff, the movie is due out in the UK on June 2.
