Yu Zheng denies adapting "The Heaven Sword"

29 Mar - Chinese producer and screenwriter Yu Zheng has denied rumours that he is set to adapt the famous novel, "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber".

According to Tencent, Yu had actually addressed the rumours back in 2016, when he spoke in an exclusive interview with Tencent, and shared that he was approached by a special effects company about adapting Jin Yong's said novel.

"I made a request at the time that if it was to be adapted, I don't want to write the script. I would rather stay as a producer," he said.

However, when the rumours resurfaced recently, fans of Jin Yong's works expressed their protests, recalling how the producer has supposedly destroyed some of Jin Yong's other novels with his lack of understanding of the work, including the 2014 Michelle Chen-starrer, "The Romance of Condor Heroes".

To that, Yu recently reiterated his response, saying that he is not involved in any way with the aforementioned adaptation. He also stated that he is now at an age where he would rather focus on creating original scripts rather than adapting other people's work.

First released in 1961, "The Heaven Sword and Dragon Saber" is the third instalment in Jin Yong's Condor Trilogy. It is preceded by "The Legend of the Condor Heroes" and "The Return of the Condor Heroes".
