Youn Yuh-jung is modest about Oscar achievement

27 Apr – Despite her many years of experience and her recent Oscar for Best Supporting Actress win, Korean actress Youn Yuh-jung is still modest about her achievements in acting.

As reported on Chosun, the 73 year-old actress, who spoke to the media at the Korean Consulate in Los Angeles following the event, stated that she did not think she was a great actress, but that she was blessed with a great project like "Minari".

"The script is good and the story touches people's heart. I hate to use the word authentic, but it was real," she said.

Youn also smiled when asked about her plans now that she has won an Oscar, saying, "Youn Yuh-jung won't turn into Kim Yo-jong just because she won an Oscar. It's harder when you're older. I don't like to trouble others."

As to why she thanked late director Kim Ki-young in her speech, Youn stated that Kim was the first filmmaker who directed her through the 1971 movie, "Fire Woman".

"I used to say I hate him very much, but I regret it now. Sadly he has passed away before I could thank him," she added.

Youn broke the Academy Awards record by becoming the first ever Korean actor to win the said accolade.
