Yeo Yann Yann wins Best Actress for "Wet Season"

22 Oct – Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann was recently named Best Actress at the Pingyao International Film Festival (PYIFF).

As reported on Wenweipo, the actress accepted the award for her role in the Singaporean movie, "Wet Season", which also won the Cinephilia Critics' Award and the Fei Mu Best Film Award at the same event.

Yeo thanked director Anthony Chen and mentor - the late theatre practitioner Kuo Pao Kun - saying, "Playing this character was very challenging for me since she is very different than myself. I had to break myself in order to find her. The process was very hard but very rewarding."

Directed by Anthony Chen of "Ilo Ilo" fame, "Wet Season" stars Yeo as a teacher who struggles with fertility issues and marital woes, and her relationship to one particular student (played by Koh Jia Ler).

Yeo is also nominated in the Best Lead Actress category at the upcoming Golden Horse Awards for her role in the same film.
