Yao Chen wishes Wuhan whistleblower good health

3 Feb – Chinese actress Yao Chen recently won praises from the netizens after expressing her support for ophthalmologist Li Wenliang, one of the eight whistleblowers who first shared about the illness that is now known as the Novel Coronavirus.

As reported on Epoch Times, the actress took to social media to address Li, who had also showed symptoms of the said epidemic, writing, "May the doctor and his family recover as soon as possible. I wish them safe."

Many believed that Yao's post has now enabled a lot of people to get more information about Li, who many believed was wrongly arrested by the Wuhan Public Security Bureau earlier for supposedly spreading false rumours about the epidemic.

It was back in December 2019 when Li, who works at the Wuhan Central Hospital, went on his medical school alumni WeChat group to warn about the seven patients put up in isolation wards in his department, saying that the said patients were from a local seafood market that had been diagnosed with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).

On 3 January, Li were called in by the Wuhan police and reprimanded for spreading rumours and disrupting social order. Upon returning to work and treating a patient who developed a fever, Li himself felt unwell and was suspected to have contracted the virus as well. Both his parents were also taken to the hospital for inspection.

On 30 January, Li assured that his test result had come back negative but that he will remain in the isolation ward.
