16 Apr - Chinese actress Yang Mi has recently released a statement blasting middleman Li Meng for denying that he was responsible for the undelivered promise that the actress will donate 100 walking sticks and 50 Braille writing machines to a school in Chengdu.
As reported on Mingpao, the issue sparked back in March this year, when a news site reported that Yang has failed to make the aforementioned donation after announcing that she would do so after playing a blind woman in the movie "The Witness" in 2015.
Yang later apologised, saying that her studio was not aware that there was no donation made since they went through a middle man named Li Meng, who worked with them in 2013 for a similar donation.
However, Li soon spoke to the media, saying that he never suggested making any donations and that he was not unreachable as the actress previously claimed.
On 13 April, Yang released a statement that read, "Yang Mi and the company have always been passionate about doing charity. We hope to do whatever we can to help those in need. We are also willing to believe that people who do charity have good intentions."
"However, we do have a lot of doubt when it comes to the donation issue pertaining to the Chengdu school. We hope to get Li Meng's further explanation. At present, we are still investigating the incident."
The company also stressed that they are not ignoring their own mistakes, and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
"We will also bear in mind to do our best to avoid any recurrences of similar problems," it added.
