Yan Ng will not back out from criticism of the police

30 Apr – Hong Kong singer Yan Ng recently stressed that she is not at all regretful of her recent statement about the situation in Hong Kong, following some backlash from the pro-China supporters.

As reported on Epoch Times, , the singer posted a photo of herself looking gloomy and wrote that she felt saddened by the thought of how many people that have been harassed, beaten, and accused unreasonably since the Hong Kong protests that sparked in June last year.

"I thought that if I was a protagonist, I would do something. But instead, I was rushing here and there but couldn't do anything... I can't believe that Hong Kong's system has turned in such a way," she wrote.

Yan's decision to write the post could have come from her own experience of witnessing what had transpired after a peaceful demonstration that was held on 26 April at Tai Koo Shing's Cityplaza Mall, when uniformed police officers and riot police brandishing pepper spray and batons started closing off parts of the mall and ordering citizens to leave when they staged a "sing-along protest" to call for the release of 15 pro-democracy advocates who were arrested last weekend.

Following the backlash from some netizens over her direct support of the protesters, Yan took to social media again on 28 April and wrote, "As a mother, I will teach the next generation to understand the truth... No matter how many people oppose you, it's not wrong to express your opinion. I hope that everybody can have freedom of speech in the future."
