The new X-Men TV series has started shooting

Production on the new X-Men TV series has begun in Dallas, Texas. Lauren Shuler Donner, a long-time producer of 20th Century Fox’s series of X-Men movies, was on set recently and tweeted the first behind-the-scenes image of the shoot.

Tentatively titled Gifted and set in the same universe as the X-Men movies, Bryan Singer himself (in the shadow to the left of the photo) is directing the pilot episode. Also seen in the image is fan favourite actress Amy Acker (Person of Interest, Dollhouse) who plays one of the leads, Kate Stewart.

Not much is known about the plot so far except that Stewart and her estranged husband, Reed (played by True Blood alum Stephen Moyer), struggle to come to terms with the fact that their teenage children are developing special powers. Forced to run from a hostile government, they join an underground network of mutants whose sole purpose is to achieve a peaceful co-existence with humans.

The series will also feature a handful of familiar mutants: Jamie Chung will play Blink, Blair Redford has been cast as Thunderbird and Emma Dumont is set to play Polaris, the Mistress of Magnetism herself and Magneto’s daughter.

Donner also tweeted another photo which gives us a glimpse of the entire cast during a table reading.

I don’t know about you guys. But keeping in mind just how GOOD FX’s Legion is, I have unreasonably high expectations of this one!

Are you looking forward to X-Men: Gifted? Tell us!
