X-Men Spin-Off New Mutants Bags 2 New Writers

It looks as though ‘New Mutants’ has found two new writers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the upcoming ‘X-Men’ spin-off has just landed two new writers - Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber.

“Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, the writing team behind the hit YA adaptations The Fault in Our Stars and The Spectacular Now, are working on the script for New Mutants, Fox’s X-Men spinoff.”

The writing duo will reteam with ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ director, Josh Boone - currently slated to direct the ‘New Mutants’ adaptation. And it certainly feels like a great fit all round.

After all, Neustadter and Weber are known for their compelling teen-oriented work.

“The movie will focus on the angst-driven adventures of a diverse group of teens that include Native American Danielle Moonstar, Scots girl Wolfsbane, Brazilian ladies man Sunspot, a Kentuckian codenamed Cannonball, and Russian teen Magik. Also in the mix will be an alien named Warlock.”

At the same time, the X-Universe is set to expand with the addition of new TV show ‘Legion’ as well as the inevitable ‘Deadpool’ sequel.

But will Professor X and Negasonic Teenage Warhead be out of the picture?

The team’s line-up (as described by THR) makes no mention of Negasonic - a character once rumoured to be appearing in the ‘New Mutants’ movie. Her addition would certainly make a lot of sense… but perhaps she’s being kept back for the ‘Deadpool’ sequel.

And then there’s Storm - also rumoured for the new movie and now played by the appropriately aged Alexandra Shipp.

Will these X-Men make it into ‘New Mutants’?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. Either way, it’s great to see some progress
