X-Men: Apocalypse Trailer Recreated With 90s Cartoon Footage

As well-loved as the live action ‘X-Men’ movie series is, there will always be a special place in the hearts of many fans - i.e. the slightly older ones - for the 1990s Fox Kids animated TV series.

These older fans should be delighted, then, to see this new take on the trailer for next year’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ - recreated using footage from the cartoon.

Watch the video below.

It’s the handiwork of Youtube user Philysteak, who has previously produced a similar cartoon-based recreation of the recent ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ trailer.

Giving this treatment to the ‘Apocalypse’ trailer seems timely, as indications are that this film - a 1980s-set ‘Days of Future Past’ follow-up, reintroducing many of the classic X-Men as teenagers - will finally see the movie series embrace some of the more brash, colourful aspects of the source material.

Indeed, one of the key criticisms of Bryan Singer’s 2000 original ‘X-Men,’ which arrived when the cartoon was still fresh in the audience’s memory, was how it did away completely with the brighter, more individual character designs in favour of (comparatively) more conservative matching black leather uniforms.

Now, if they could just find it in themselves to bring the cartoon’s awesome theme tune to the movies as well…

‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ opens on 19 May 2016. Watch the original trailer below.
