With the success of the ever-popular Cobra Kai series on Netflix, there is no better time than now to further expand on the franchise by kickstarting the Karate Kid Cinematic Universe (KKCU) in 2024. A new Karate Kid movie is slated for 13 December 2024. Ralph Macchio (Daniel LaRusso) from 1984’s The Karate Kid, its sequels, and the recent Cobra Kai series on Netflix is set to reprise his role alongside Jackie Chan (Mr. Han) who was the sensei in 2010’s reboot of The Karate Kid.
In fact, the duo has kicked off their global casting search for the next Karate Kid star via an announcement video on YouTube.
According to the open casting call, they seem to be looking for an actor to portray Chinese or Mixed-Race Chinese and between 15 – 17 years old. He’s able to speak fluent English. Conversational Mandarin is a strong plus. He’s smart, scrappy and a skilled martial artist. Any sort of martial arts, movement, gymnastics, and/or dance experience is a strong plus. And no acting experience is required. He must also be available from March to June 2024.
If you think you have what it takes, or know someone who foots the bill, head on over to the official website for more information.
With the sixth and final season of Cobra Kai set for 2024 as well, we’re expecting both the series and movie to crossover somehow. 2024 looks to be going nuts with karate!
