Wong Kar Wai to start on "Chungking Express 2020"

28 Sep – It was revealed that Wong Kar Wai has been given the green light to start working on the remake of his hit 1994 movie, "Chungking Express".

As reported on HK01, it was announced that Wong's submission for "Chungking Express 2020" has been approved by China's National Radio and Television Administration (NRTA) to begin production.

The remake will reportedly be set in Hong Kong during the '90s and revolve around the story of a broken-hearted police officer and a blonde female killer, as well as another constable whose life changes upon an encounter with a "dreamer". Meanwhile, in Chongqing in 2036, young Xiaoqian and May are unwilling to be genetically matched and are determined to find their own "destiny."

However, there is still no news as to who will play the roles this time around.

The original film stars Takeshi Kaneshiro, Tony Leung, Faye Wong, and Brigitte Lin, and had won multiple awards including the FIPRESCI prize for Wong Kar Wai at the 1994 Stockholm International Film Festival.
