Wong Kar Wai honoured with the Lumière Award

23 Oct - Hong Kong director Wong Kar Wai was recently honoured with the Lumière Award, making him the first Hong Kong filmmaker to have won the said award.

As reported on Mingpao, the director, whose movies like "The Grandmaster", "Chungking Express" and "In the Mood for Love" have won critics and audiences alike, was revealed to have won the honour as he has "reached beyond the circle of moviegoers and critics, attracting a public drawn to his search for the aesthetics and poetic."

Wong joined previous winners that include Hollywood star Clint Eastwood, director Martin Scorsese, and actor Gerard Depardieu. Last year, the award was presented to French actress Catherine Deneuve.

The director dedicated the award to his wife Esther, whom he called his muse, saying, "My wife rarely goes to the studio in order to give me some space and let me focus on my job. But her support is always there."
