Wong Kar Wai: I always produce comedies!

25 Oct - Wong Kar Wai is always known for his serious drama, which is why it was a bit confusing to some when he decided to produce a comedy instead.

As reported on CRI News, the director-producer, who attended the promotional event of new movie "See You Tomorrow" (previously reported as "The Ferryman"), stated that while he would opt to direct serious movies, he mostly produced comedies.

"Most of the films that I produce are comedies. I shot a movie years ago called ["Chinese Odyssey 2002"], which is also a comedy with a similar star-studded leading cast," said Wong.

He also stated that the new movie, co-starring Takeshi Kaneshiro and Tony Leung, is an anniversary movie, to celebrate his production studio Jet Tone's 25th year.

Since the studio's first film was a comedy ("Eagle Shooting Heroes"), he has decided to celebrate its anniversary with another comedy.

Inspired by "I Belonged to You", a short story written by Zhang Jiajia, the movie is directed by the writer himself, and tells the story of a romance between a man with an unfaithful wife and his young lover.

The movie is set to be released this 23 December.
