A student who stopped shaving her legs four months ago has been trolled after sharing a video of her hairy legs online.

Ana Calatayud Perez-Manglano, 24, quit removing her body hair in November last year for the simple reason that she no longer wanted to, and said she will only start again when she feels like it.

But after uploading a video of her legs covered in thick, dark hair to social media, the fine arts student, from Valencia, Spain, was surprised to be hit with a barrage of sexist comments.

From personal comments about her sex life to men claiming they would “break up with my girlfriend if she looked like this,” Ana received dozens of messages following the uploading of the video.

Other trolls called her “horrible and disgusting.”

“I was just lazy and didn’t want to shave – I don’t have any complex, I don’t really care what people say,” Ana said.

“I am not ashamed of having hairy legs – women are like this, hairy and we choose to shave or not if we don’t want to.

“It has nothing to do with feminism or trying to make a point – I just didn’t want to.

“I am single right now, but I have never had a problem with my ex-boyfriends – no man has ever made me shave my legs because they thought I was dirty or gross,” she added.

“I am tired of having to shave because I’m obliged to by society, and I won’t do so until I feel like it.”

The video Ana shared online quickly went viral, clocking up more than 9K shares, but the student was surprised at the reaction she received purely because of her body hair.

Despite the negativity, Ana also said she did receive some supportive messages from women who wanted to thank her for normalising body hair.

She added: “I am single right now, but I have never had a problem with my ex-boyfriends – no man has ever made me shave my legs because they thought I was dirty or gross.

“I have to say there were a lot of people who messaged me to say ‘thank you’ or just to support me and that’s what I am going to keep from all this.”

Ana isn’t the only woman to have found herself on the receiving end of trolling thanks to her decision not to shave or pluck her body hair.

Last month a model whose monobrow has lead to her becoming an Instagram sensation revealed she regularly receives death threats.

Sophia Hadjipanteli opts not to pluck her bushy eyebrows, leaving her monobrow to grow naturally.

But though her striking look has earned her 292K followers on Instagram, unfortunately it’s also attracted some negative attention.
