Woman slams boyfriend for ‘ridiculous’ proposal tactic: ‘What kind of guy does that’

This is grounds for a break-up.

A woman is questioning her entire relationship after her boyfriend proposed to her with a ring originally meant for his ex.

On July 30, the woman — who goes by Ringanon432 — posted about her dilemma in Reddit’s “Am I The A******” (AITA) forum.

In her post, she explained that before she and her boyfriend got together, he was engaged to another woman. Of course, they broke up, and his ex “gave the ring back.”

Fast forward to a few days ago, and Ringanon432’s boyfriend decided to propose. When she examined the ring carefully, though, it “looked kinda familiar,” and when she inquired further, he admitted that it was “the ring he gave to [his ex-fiancée].”

“I immediately took it off and was like, ‘I don’t want a ring you bought for someone else, it wasn’t meant for me,'” Ringanon432 said. “He got upset and said it didn’t matter, because it’s not hers anymore, it’s mine.”

Since Ringanon432’s friends and family are divided on whether she’s justified in being upset over the recycled ring, she took to Reddit to get some stranger’s opinions.

For the most part, Reddit agrees with Ringanon432 and says that reusing an old ring is “ridiculous.”

“How dare he give you her ring. It’s HER ring, he meant it for HER, bought it for HER,” one person said. “How does he think to give you her rejects is ok? You are completely justified. And I would rethink this guy if I were you.”

“Are you serious? What kind of guy does that,” another user added. “I would be pissed and would have reacted the same way.”

However, some people said that Ringanon432 was being “superficial” in caring so much about the ring.

“If it’s that big of a deal, sell it and get a new one. He probably spent a lot of money on that and don’t you think it’s a little ridiculous to ask him to spend thousands of dollars on another?” one person commented. “I get the symbolism and all, but it’s just a ring. It doesn’t mean you two aren’t a good match … or that he doesn’t care about you. It just sounds like a financially sound choice to me.”

“At the end of the day it’s a ring showing your intent to marry. S**** expensive … so reusing can be a financially sound idea,” another user noted.

In response to the comments that put Ringanon432 in the wrong, many people noted that the ring could have easily been sold or exchanged for a new one.

“He could just sell that one and get one meant for you,” one user explained. “It doesn’t have to be expensive, just personal.”
