A drunken man at a Seattle cinema accidentally shot a stranger during a screening of ‘13 Hours,’ the new movie by director Michael Bay.

Associated Press report the incident occurred around 8pm on Thursday 21 January at the Regal Cinema in Seattle suburb Renton.

A woman was hit in the shoulder, and taken to Seattle’s Harborview Medical Center in a critical condition - though happily her condition has since been downgraded to ‘serious,’ the bullet having reportedly missed major arteries.

The 29-year old man fled the scene. Some reports claim he turned himself in to police on returning home, whilst others say his father called 911.

The man reportedly admitted to police that he had been drinking, and says the gun went off when he accidentally dropped it.

Renton Police Department’s David Leibman states, “We have witnesses that say he came into the theater and appeared intoxicated.

“He went in and took a seat in theater No. 9 and was fumbling with a pistol when it went off and struck someone sitting in front of him.”

Seattle is situated in Washington State, where it is legal for citizens to open carry a handgun without a permit.
