"The Witches" conjures up Robert Zemeckis as director

20 Jun – Not a fan of 1990's "The Witches" but absolutely love the Roald Dahl book? Then the upcoming movie adaptation might be more to your liking, especially now that it has conjured up a trustworthy director to helm it.
Robert Zemeckis is close to sealing the deal with Warner Bros., Variety reports.
Zemeckis will be taking over the directing duties from Guillermo del Toro, who will now serve as a producer instead due to scheduling conflicts.
The new "The Witches" adaptation is said to stick more closely to its source material, Dahl's 1983 children's dark fantasy novel of the same name.
Hopefully by doing so, the new movie will fare better than the 1990 version, which was well-received by critics but hated by the author because the movie's ending was not the same as his book's. It also did not perform well at the box office, earning a mere USD15.3 million.
Dahl's "The Witches" tells of a seven-year-old boy who's been turned into a mouse and his attempt to stop a coven of child-hating witches.
