I have been team Ugg boot since my first pair of Classic II short boots in sand, which I got for Christmas when I was 13. And sure, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for those very cozy slip-on boots. But Ugg is so much more than your lazy-day footwear. The brand's Butte winter boots-made for rain, sleet, and snow-will get you through the season's roughest days. Plus, they're lined with Ugg's signature fur. You know, the stuff that makes those classic boots and slippers as cozy as they are. Don't wait until the storms starts to get your hands on a pair. Here's how they'll make your life better.

They're Like Protective Barriers.

I have tried many a winter boot, and many a winter boot has failed me. Either they're waterproof but not insulated, they're insulated but don't have traction, or they're cool but serve zero functional purpose. Ugg's Butte boot nails every winter need, namely: keeping your feet warm and dry. They're made with a waterproof leather, and they're lined with a Uggpure-a wool that mimics shearling in both its look and its function. I've worn them in every single snow storm that happened in New York City in the past two years, and not once have my toes gotten wet. And as for that lining? It's said to keep your feet warm down to -4 degrees Fahrenheit, and I can confirm-these are the only boots that have almost been too warm in the middle of a snow storm. I'll take it.

The Sole's Traction is No Joke.

The biggest problem I've had with pre-Butte winter boots has been poor traction. Few snow boots are equipped to handle snow, ice, and Manhattan sidewalks. But these are the first and only shoes that actually make me feel like I won't fall on my face. Reason being, the Vibram outsole has the perfect amount of lug to it. They are able to get enough grip on slippery surfaces to keep your entire foot stable, but they're not so heavy as to weigh you down as you move. I honestly wouldn't trust any other boot to navigate black ice and the city at night-and neither should you.

For a Functional Boot, They're Really Damn Stylish.

I'm not going to kid you and say that protective, insulated snow boots are the most stylish piece of footwear you'll ever own. But guess what? When it's 10 degrees and sleeting, no one cares what you're wearing-including me. So really what you're looking for here is winter boots that are as cool and stylish as they can be. And the Butte boot is just that: It has just the right amount of apres-ski vibe to it, what with its fur lining and rubberized sole. Plus, this all-black colorway is as low-key-and versatile-as it gets.
