Princess Eugenie’s royal wedding is around the corner.

On October 12th, the ninth-in-line to the throne will marry fiancé Jack Brooksbank in the biggest wedding of the year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s May nuptials.

We know some details, such as where it will be held (St James’s Chapel at Windsor Castle) and some of the lucky guests (reportedly George and Amal Clooney included), but thats about as far as it goes.

But when it comes to the dress designer, your guess is as good as ours. What we do know is that a “British-based designer” is behind the gown.

“[The dress] is the one thing that I was really decisive about. As soon as we announced the wedding, I knew the designer, and the look, straight away. I never thought I’d be the one who knew exactly what I like, but I’ve been pretty on top of it,” Eugenie recently told British Vogue.

“I’m not telling anyone who is making it, but I can say it is a British-based designer,” she finished.

While the list of British designers Eugenie could employ is endless, it’s likely she’ll choose one with a well-regarded reputation.

Might she choose to follow in Kate Middleton’s footsteps by choosing Alexander McQueen? Perhaps she’ll wear Stella McCartney, as Meghan Markle did for her reception?

However, it’s likely Eugenie chose her words to British Vogue carefully, and the designer isn’t British but resides in the country.

One of the Princess’s favourite designers, Erdem Moralıoğlu, who helms his eponymous Erdem, was born in Montreal, Canada, but grew up in Birmingham in the UK.

Eugenie can often be found wearing Erdem, and even wore the brand in her engagement photos – so it would be a fair prediction.

Burberry could be another contender. With Italian-born Riccardo Tisci at its helm since Christopher Bailey stepped down earlier this year, the label could be behind the dress.

As for the shape, there could be some clues in Eugenie’s personal style.

She loves 50s-styles, fit-and-flare shapes, high necks and boxy shoulders, so perhaps she’ll ensure her dress features some of these elements.

We can also make an informed guess that the royal will wear long sleeves. Princess Eugenie tends to favour sleeves anyway, and what with her wedding taking place in October, it’s likely she’ll want to avoid the chill.

One thing is for certain: it’s unlikely Eugenie’s gown will cost as much as the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex’s gowns, which fell in the region of £250,000 and £200,000, respectively.

The royals face frequent criticism about how they spend their money, and while Eugenie’s dress won’t be fronted by the public, it might seem more modest to keep her dress on the ‘cheaper’ side (i.e. not hundreds of thousands of pounds).

Could Eugenie take inspiration from the royal brides that have gone before her?

For her 2011 nuptials to the Duke of Cambridge, the Duchess wore a stunning gown by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen which came complete with a lace bodice and long sleeves.

As for the Duchess of Sussex’s wedding earlier this year, she opted for a bateau neckline Givenchy gown made from a double-bonded silk cady. The Duchess added Queen Mary’s diamond bandeau tiara and a veil which included embroidery symbolising the 53 countries of the commonwealth.

It’s likely Eugenie will want to avoid being compared to her cousin’s brides’ by opting for a completely different silhouette and designer.

As for Eugenie’s tiara, bets are on that she’s wear the York Diamond Tiara, which he mother Sarah Ferguson wore at her wedding to Prince Andrew.

The tiara was commissioned for the Duchess of York as a gift from the Queen for her wedding.

Either way, we think she’ll look gorgeous. We can’t wait to see what she wears!
