Will Ferrell is making an 'A-list' comedy movie about Eurovision
Will Ferrell is setting his sights on the bizarre world of the Eurovision Song Contest for his next movie project.
He’s both writing and starring in the comedy, which is to be made for Netflix, and is said to be bringing in an A-list cast alongside him.
Adam McKay, who directed Anchorman, The Other Guys, and Talladega Nights with Ferrell, as well as The Big Short and the upcoming Backseat, the Dick Cheney biopic, is to executive produce.
Ferrell has delighted in euro-centric characters in the past, notably Jacobim Mugatu in the Zoolander movies.
He’s also shown off his pipes in the past too, singing in movies like Step Brothers, and also during his tenure on Saturday Night Live.
The contest, which was founded in 1956, is ripe for sending up too, though US audiences are notably less familiar with the subject matter than here in Europe.
Ferrell is next up re-teaming with his Step Brothers co-star John C. Reilly, playing Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson in the star-laden Holmes and Watson, alongside Rob Byrdon, Kelly Macdonald, Rebecca Hall, Ralph Fiennes and Hugh Laurie.
It’s due out in December.
