From meh to meta: Why Kazuha's rerun has Genshin Impact players rejoicing

Genshin Impact players are rejoicing as the long awaited rerun of the Kaedehara Kazuha, the 5-star Anemo sword wielder from Inazuma, has been confirmed for version 2.8.

However, the reception for Kazuha wasn’t like this before.

People may remember that a year ago, during Kazuha's debut in version 1.6, people had mixed opinions about him and his kit.

Players’ first impressions of him boiled down to him being a “5-star Sucrose”, while Genshin YouTubers would hark the call of skipping Kazuha because he wasn’t a "meta DPS hypercarry".

But boy, did those who skipped him because he was “mediocre” eat their words.

As Kazuha's debut banner ended with a less-than-stellar revenue, the internet was suddenly deluged with a better, more informed opinion of Kazuha’s kit and capabilities as a sub/support.

But it was too little, too late.

Streamers and guide websites began to call him THE meta character. The Kazuha haters quickly became Kazuha wanters who would comment “Kazuha Rerun When??” every time a Genshin Impact social media account makes a post, and those who had to save for Raiden Shogun or Kamisato Ayaka began to have second thoughts on their choices.

So why is Kazuha the most awaited rerun since his release?

Besides breaking away from the negative impression he unjustly got from the then-uninformed player base, Kazuha isn’t simply relegated to a singular role of crowd control or buffing other characters.

His powerful Chihayaburu Elemental Skill, a jump and plunge, can vacuum in enemies and, if not outright destroy, can deal a ton of damage with either raw Anemo DMG or a Swirl. This skill alone makes Kazuha a very formidable sub-DPS.

His Elemental Burst, Kazuha Slash, can deal continuous Anemo and Swirl damage in a large area-of-effect.

But, most importantly, it also buffs the damage of characters whose element has been swirled by his slash.

With how powerful Kazuha’s slash is, you can see how much he’s a staple to the meta teams you see today.

You have to admit, much of the big damage showcases you see proliferating the Genshin subs and communities are carried by his ultimate.

Using any of the two can also help destroy shields faster. He’s a big help when you’re going against pesky Abyss Mages, Lectors, and Heralds.

Kazuha also ascends with Elemental Mastery, so he can quickly get a high amount to help him deal high tons of Swirl damage and buff his allies.

This not only makes him easy to build (as the only way to maximise his kit is through a full Viridescent Venerer artifact set), but also sets him up as an all-rounder for any team that utilises elemental damage.

Kazuha is by no means a “5-star Sucrose”, both characters are distinctively amazing in what they can do.

And with Kazuha, what he does best is carrying you through Spiral Abyss without as much as a sweat on your brow.
