Whitney Hui laments about old rumours resurfacing

17 Mar – Hong Kong actress Whitney Hui recently took to social media to express her thoughts about the past rumours that had resurfaced in the media.

As reported on Mingpao, the actress, who recently found herself being talked about in the tabloids again for past rumours - that TVB refused to renew her contract and that she supposedly demanded exorbitant fee – published a long post on Instagram, writing, "Yesterday I saw two reports about myself. I thought about whether I should care about what others said or live for myself."

"Perhaps many people will say, "Don't mind news or don't care what someone else say about you", but in fact, if you are in my place, you may understand my helplessness, sadness and the pressure that I felt."

Whitney stated that TVB once taught her not to respond to people's accusations against her, as it will only make it worse. Therefore, she chose to keep silent over and over again.

"In fact, what many do not know is that artistes are under a lot of pressure. Imagine you are in the papers for things that you didn't do, but the Hong Kong people assume that you have done it, and it is repeated over and over. In fact, many artists have experienced depression [because of this]. Fortunately, I have good friends and family members around me who will always pull me up when I fall down or feel sad, otherwise I think I would also fall into depression."

Whitney said that while she understands that this is the cost of being a public figure, when people making up false stories about an artiste, it is considered a form of cyberbullying.

To rumours about her contract renewal, the actress said that she decided not to renew it as she wanted to further her studies. She stressed that payment was never an issue.

"At this stage, I enjoy my life. I don't want to, and I don't think I need to give any more response. Whenever I have the time, I spend it on recipes and cooking, and putting time to help others with physical and spiritual therapy. I am very happy to be able to discover the things that I love!" she added.
