1. Wild Wood Cafe
Yishun residents are lucky to have Wild Wood Cafe in their backyard. Nestled in Wisteria Mall, the cosy interiors and baths of natural light here make this eatery a pretty sight for sore eyes. But that can’t fill your stomach. Their enormous hunk of fried chicken will. We sprang for the Wild Chief Breakfast Set (S$18.80), which encompasses a hearty platter of creamy scrambled eggs, sauteed mushrooms, smoked salmon, and fresh greens.
Of course, their boneless morsel of fried chicken proves moist, juicy, and intensely flavoured. Its size alone warrants a trip down, and if you’re ever looking to stuff yourself silly without a care in the world, Wild Wood Cafe might just be the one for you.

2. Bara Food
Here’s an Indonesian joint that may excite. A delicately crisp skin and moist flesh make Bara Food’s Ayam Goreng Serundeng (S$7.50) succeed in more ways than one. It’s only further elevated by a blend of aromatics that rests above its golden-brown exterior, labelled coyly as ‘serunding’.
Perhaps for ambiguity’s sake, it is a strategy I accept, for this secretive mix of herbs and spices puts even the Colonel to shame. Pair it with a serving of their nasi bakar for a lovely meat-and-carb pairing that’ll make all the food comas worth it. This is Indonesian fried chicken that is masterfully handled.

3. Wildfire Chicken & Burgers
In our opinion, one should never leave the confines of Bencoolen without having a taste of Wildfire Chicken & Burgers. Here, the Signature Fried Chicken (S$4 for one piece, S$11 for three pieces, S$35 for 10 pieces) is the stuff of dreams. You get impeccably crisp skin and lovingly brined meat within. Well, it’s no surprise when these babies are double-fried to crispy perfection. It all makes you forget that they sell burgers too.

4. Victor Famous Fried Chicken Wing Rice
We love chicken rice. But take that chicken and steep it in bubbling oil and we might love that even more. Victor Famous Fried Chicken Wing Rice makes that fantasy a reality. We urge you to come down for a plate of the Fried Chicken Wing Rice (S$3) that comprises fragrant chicken rice and two fried chicken wings. Wow, that’s a lot of chicken in one sentence, but I’m not complaining. After all, Victor’s version proves entirely dependable and seriously delicious.

5. Arnold’s
It would be a crime to churn out a fried chicken listicle and leave out Arnold’s. Having been opened for more than 30 years, this time-tested recipe has won over the hearts of many fried chicken aficionados across the nation. Go for their spring chicken if you’re feeling peckish. Otherwise, any of their fried chicken variants will not disappoint. After all, when the skin is this crisp and the flesh this juicy, it’s hard not to fall head over heels for Arnold’s.

6. Chic-a-boo
Fried chicken meals with two side dishes? It all sounds a little too good to be true. Chic-a-boo provides just that whilst keeping prices affordable and accessible. Opened by the Astons brand, this eatery puts forth impressively handled fried chicken. Our 2pcs Chicken Set Meal (S$8.90) comes with a choice of two sides. Both the Favourite and Hot & Spicy flavours are delicious, juicy, and carefully battered. We recommend their curly fries and tasty rice, and don’t you dare tell me about carbs. Your experience would be that much more fulfilling.

7. Ah Tan Wings
When it comes to hawkers, Ah Tan Wings is a must-try. Serving up proper har cheong gai (prawn paste chicken), this Gen-Y-run stall displays utter finesse and mastery in their iteration of crispy fried chicken. Here, your chicken is battered twice and gloriously fried in hot oil. You wouldn’t believe it till you’ve sunk your teeth into a serving of Ah Tan’s prawn paste chicken. They now have two outlets—one in Yishun Park Hawker Centre, and another at Timbre+. I guess that just makes it easier for us to indulge.

8. Wingstop
Saucy or not, Wingstop has it all. This fast food joint does chicken wings like no other. Choose from nine different flavours and a variety of chicken offerings. If you’re looking to get your hands dirty and messy, the classic wings are for you. Then there are the boneless wings, which come by way of crispy morsels of juicy thigh meat. Our recommendations? Lousiana Rub and Kecap Manis. But don’t take it from us, come on down and find your favourites.

9. Waker Chicken
Korean fried chicken fanatics, you didn’t really think that we would forget about you, did you? Waker Chicken is nestled away in Toa Payoh, but don’t let that discount its flavours. There’s great bang for your buck here, with four yummy flavours to choose from. We were left especially swooned by the honey butter iteration that presents a unique sweet-salty dusting of honey butter powder atop crispy morsels of fried chicken.
Every now and then, a trip down to Waker is needed to keep those Korean fried chicken cravings in check, and the best part is we don’t burn a hole in our wallets when doing so.

10. Chix Hot Chicken
This one’s quite literally a spicy addition to end off our list. Chix Hot Chicken sits in the heart of town, along Jalan Pisang. Here, you can look forward (or not) to a smorgasbord of Nashville-style fried chicken. Yes, that dangerously spicy rub of cayenne pepper sits centre stage here, and boy is it ruthless.
Thankfully, not only the fearless are invited to dine here. With three levels of hotness, you can pick your poison. One thing is for sure though—you’d be served excellent fried chicken either way.
