If any sort of winner has emerged over the course of the last year, it's the sweatpant. The style's star was already on the rise before a pandemic and country-wide WFH orders rendered all forms of conventional office attire immediately obsolete. But 2020 was the year the sweatpant's ascension reached its logical apotheosis, as it effortlessly asserted its dominance over less-comfortable alternatives—i.e. any pant with a non-elastic waistband—singlehandedly propping up a battered retail industry in the process.
