Empire report that work is underway on ‘Paranormal Event Response Unit,’ a six-part 30 minute comedy series based around dim-witted police officers Karen (Karen O’Leary) and Mike (Mike Minogue).

As the title suggests, the series will see the two Wellington cops investigating paranormal activity, which should be no small task given that ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ saw the NZ capital full of vampires and werewolves.

There isn’t any confirmation yet as to how involved the original film’s writer-director-actors Taika Waititi and Jermaine Clement will be in the show; Waititi for one is particularly busy right now, as he’s currently directing Marvel’s ‘Thor: Ragnarok.’

However, it seems fair to assume ‘Paranormal Event Response Unit’ will follow a similar ‘mockumentary’ approach utilised to near-perfection in the 2014 movie.

Nor is the series the only ‘What We Do in the Shadows’ offshoot in the pipeline, as Waititi and Clement have also spoken of plans for semi-sequel ‘We’re Wolves,’ centring on the werewolf clan who make a brief but memorable appearance in the vampire-based comedy.

Taika Waititi’s latest film ‘Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ is in UK cinemas now.
