We're One Step Closer to Real X-Wing Thanks to Hot Wheels Mechanics

This might be the closest we see a working X-wing fighter. Mattel’s Hot Wheels division, which crafted a special car version of the Star Wars trench run for Comic-Con (and exclusively previewed by Yahoo Movies), has taken those “carships” to the next level. On Wednesday night, the toy maker unveiled a life-size race-car version of the X-wing fighter. The sleekly designed vehicle, mounted on a ginormous piece of the iconic orange track, matches the classic lines of the starship, featuring a cockpit that would make Wedge feel right at home.

There’s a pair of laser cannons (non-functioning… we think) and two body jets reminiscent of the X-wing’s engines.

Here are some behind-the-scenes images of the making of the vehicle.

The X-wing Carship will be on display at Comic-Con through Sunday. In addition to the exclusive Hot Wheels set on sale at the convention (which features the X-wing, Darth Vader’s TIE fighter, and two other TIEs), Mattel will be introducing a full line of die-cast toy carships later this year — just in time for the release of Rogue One.
