Weekend guide (25-27 May): Dragon boat event, choral concert, animation film festival

From spending the day with your family at the Padang, to enjoying animated films hailing from France, there is something for everyone this weekend.

This event will host the seventh edition of the international dragon boating competition with an estimated 80 teams from Asia competing against one another. It will feature Southeast Asia’s largest land and water obstacle, Battle Bay Extreme, where participants can choose from three thrilling levels: Beginner, intermediate and advanced. Enjoy healthy snacks and drinks at the event’s bazaar at the DBS Creators’ Market, which houses a communal kitchen and an open-area for wellness activities as well.

Faber-Castell Art Festival

The second edition of this annual art exhibition showcases the versatility of Faber-Castell’s products through various art forms. Workshops will be held throughout the festival for interested individuals of all ages. This includes soft pastel, watercolour and calligraphy workshops. Festival highlights include Faber-Castell colouring competitions, trick-eye stations and caricature for charity and portrait painting.

Families for Life Celebration

Head to the Padang with your family and enjoy a fun-filled time on the closed roads of Civic District in conjunction with Car-Free Sunday SG. Highlights include the largest Bouncy Wonderland in Singapore, a breakfast picnic, sport try-outs and an evening outdoor movie screening under the stars.

Raffles Singers Presents: Retrospect

This annual choral concert commemorates some of the most prodigious composers of their times. Go on a musical journey with the singers as they bring songs ranging from folk tunes and spirituals to sacred music, as well as lesser-known works by famous composers such as Pachelbel and Bernstein. The night will also feature a distinctively Singaporean flavour to the repertoire as the concert will premiere local composition Wait For You, which explores the Singlish language and accent.

UWC Ocean Paradise Swim Carnival

Have a fun-filled morning with your little ones at this swim carnival. The event promotes a “Swim-Fun, Swim-Strong” approach to younger swimmers still new to the standard swim meet format, creating a fun and safe environment for them. Look forward to swim and game stations, food and beverages, and a mini bazaar. Swim stations include 1m & 3m diving boards, a 25m Swim Race and a bouncy castle obstacle course.

French Animation Film Festival

The seventh edition of this film festival returns with a unique selection of French family-friendly animated movies such as Zombillénium, The Jungle Bunch and Academy Award-nominated film Garden Party. Highlights of the festival include Stop Motion Animation workshops and a Question & Answer (Q&A) segment with the film director and editor of Zombillénium. A total of seven films will be screened throughout the festival with 2 workshops and 1 talk set to be conducted.

100 & 100 More Festival for Young Festivals

This biennial festival gathers the best of children’s productions from all over the world. Highlights include Into the Blue Forest, Especially On Birthdays, Snigel & Friends, as well as other prolific works from Denmark, Japan, Indonesia and Scotland. A total of nearly 70 ticketed and non-ticketed programmes will be held during the event.
