Weekend guide (14-16 September): Mid-Autumn Festival, Silver Arts Festival, stand-up show

Here is Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore’s list of interesting activities happening this weekend including displays of eye-catching lanterns at Gardens by the Bay, a senior citizens festival, and a stand-up show by a duo of YouTube stars.

Mid-Autumn @ Gardens by the Bay

This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival@Gardens by the Bay showcases large lantern displays inspired by imaginary worlds and natural wonders. A highlight is the Leaping over the Dragon’s Gate lantern, which spans 70m across with a height of 10.8m. The display depicts the legend of a carp transforming into a dragon. Visitors can also look forward to savouring local and Asian food, nightly cultural performances, games and riddles, as well as Chinese artisans showcasing their skills in engraving, dough figurine sculpting and sugar art.

Silver Arts Festival

Celebrating seniors and creative aging, this annual festival seeks to encourage inter-generational bonding through programmes aimed at the young and old. Seniors will showcase their talents through dance, theatre, music, film, traditional arts and visual arts. Fans of 80s Mandarin pop can look forward to sing-along concerts featuring nostalgic 80’s tunes from stars such as Fong Fei Fei and Teresa Teng, and two films about seniors finding a new lease of life in their golden years.

Dan & Phil World Tour – Interactive Introverts

Popular YouTube duo Dan & Phil will be bringing their stand-up show to Singapore and entertain the audience with rants and stories. The duo are known for their humorous vlogs on YouTube and weekly radio show for BBC Radio 1.

COURTS Home & Furniture Day Out

Putting a spotlight on the joys of home furnishing, this event will feature various activities, workshops and talks for the whole family. Visitors can look forward to workshops on furniture and bedding customisations, talks on home improvement, as well as smart home-themed games where participants have to use smart gadgets to solve certain scenarios. There will also be a children tea party, where the young ones could make their own treats, and decorate marshmallow and cookie treats. Lucky draws will be held during the event as well.

Marvel Studios: Ten Years of Heroes Exhibition

Marking Marvel Studios’ 10th anniversary, this exhibition features installations of Marvel’s characters including Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Iron Man, Captain America and Thor. Visitors can explore the Marvel Cinematic Universe by travelling through Doctor Strange’s light portal, experiencing the world of Wakanda, and seeing things through the eyes of Ant-Man and the Wasp. Visitors can also discover about the science and technology behind each Marvel film.

CANA Film Festival

Featuring both short and feature-length films, this film festival will screen a collection of acclaimed documentaries that puts the spotlight on the state of humanity of past and present and explore topics such as love, friendship and hope. The films include Red de Libertad (The Network of Freedom), Island of the Hungry Ghosts, and Love & Bananas.
