Watch This 'James White' Trailer and See Why He's Such a Hot Mess

If you met slacker-hedonist James White in a bar, you might be tempted to throw a drink in his face. Christopher Abbott (Girls) plays the title character in the drama James White, about a troubled 20-something New Yorker who finds himself clutching onto sanity as his mother (Cynthia Nixon of Sex and the City) battles a life-threatening illness. The film, by Josh Mond (the producer of the critically acclaimed Martha Marcy May Marlene), has toured the festival circuit, collecting stellar reviews along the way. Variety called the film a “powerful but grueling family drama.” And The Hollywood Reporter found James White “viscerally acted… whose rich visual and sonic textures intensify the plunge into the title character’s messy life.”

Also starring Ron Livingston (Office Space) and Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi (Comedy Bang! Bang!), James White opens in select theaters Nov. 13.
