Watch Movie Stars Nominate Fellow Celebrities to Run for President (And Save Us All?)

The 2016 presidential election oftentimes seems less about which candidate each party loves than which candidate the other party hates. The left needs Donald Trump to go away yesterday, while the right feels the same about Hillary Clinton.

If only there was a candidate that could bring us all together. Someone like… Oprah Winfrey or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson?

Over the last several months, Yahoo Movies asked a constituency of famous movies stars which fellow thespian they’d like to see run for office (watch above) and follow in the footsteps of 40th U.S. President Ronald Reagan — or as Doc Brown would call him, “Ronald Reagan, the actor?”

“Everyone keeps talking about The Rock for president,” said Scott Eastwood (Snowden). Seth Rogen and his Neighbors 2 costar Zac Efron were onboard. “I’d vote for The Rock,” he said. “I don’t know his politics, but I just like The Rock.”

Oprah Winfrey, meanwhile, drew some support from Mila Kunis (Bad Moms) and Bryan Cranston (The Infiltrator). “This country would benefit greatly by having the yin and yang of thoughtfulness, introspection, resilency, and heart,” Cranston offered.

Eastwood’s Snowden costar Shailene Woodley could see her fellow activist Rosario Dawson making a run. “I think Rosario Dawson is incredibly intelligent, and knows what’s up, and I think she would make a badass president.”

Kate Beckinsale (Love & Friendship) found her ideal candidate in the long-running TV show 24. “I was very happy with Dennis Haysbert [who played senator-turned-prez David Palmer],” she said. “He was like the best president we’ve ever had. I felt very comforted, even though he was obviously in terrible peril all the time.”

There were some musicians in the mix as well. Meryl Streep (Florence Foster Jenkins) nominated Beyoncé, but Russell Crowe (The Nice Guys) might have had the best answer of them all: “In terms of someone I believe really has a talent for the role, that could offer leadership, wisdom, a pathway forward,” he said. “Snoop Dogg.”

Of course, not everyone was into the idea of a Hollywood movie star coming to the electorate’s rescue. “Celebrities do not need to be president, they’re not qualified,” said Kristen Bell (Bad Moms). And J.K. Simmons (The Accountant) smells what Bell’s cooking: “No,” he said. “Answer: No.”
