Produce 101 is a musical competition show currently airing its second season in Korea. It's sort of like Making the Band but with American Idol-style public voting. As its title suggests, the show starts with 101 (!!!) contestants, and over the course of the show they're whittled down to a final group of 11. In its first season, all the contestants were female (the result was the girl group I.O.I., which tbh already disbanded but that's OK) and this time, it's boyband time. Here are all the contestants' first performance, by the way. It's great:

The show's network, MNET, is shrewd enough to cater to their fandom (who are voting DAILY, at least I am) with lots of ~digital exclusives~ and video series. Recently, this A+ content has included the contestants attempting a "staring contest" with the camera, feeling out things hidden in boxes, and most importantly, MAKING MERINGUES!

So yes, there are ninety-eight videos (yes, 3 contestants dropped out of the show already, sucks to be them) of K-Pop boy band hopefuls whipping up meringues on YouTube. I would love to share all of them, but in the spirit of the show I shall pick only my top 11 (AKA my boyband) as it stands right now. Please note that I have only seen through episode #3 because I have to wait for English subtitles, OK? Don't @ me if any of my faves turn out to be problematic, please.

1. Park Woo-jin

As above, Park Woo-jin is very talented and very serious about the competition. He's not even fucking about with his yolks, y'all.

2. Ahn Heong-seop

Heong-seop, on the other hand, is a total stunt queen and plays up to the camera at every opportunity. I refuse to believe he is this incompetent with eggs unless doing so on purpose, nonetheless he won my heart in the first episode after jumping on stage during a filming break to show off a flawless dance routine (from the 0:40 mark in this video, ywia.)

3. Daniel Kang

4. Jang Moon-bok

No arguments are needed here, Moon-bok should be everyone's favorite chipmunk-on-speed rapper.

5. Ong Seong-wu

6. Samuel Kim

7. Kang Dong-ho

SCANDAL ALERT: Dong-ho was already in a boyband once, but the group flopped so now he's back for a second chance.

8. Kim Dong-bin

Dong-bin cries all the time 😥 😥 😥

9. Lai Kuan-lin

And tbh Kuan-lin just doesn't know what he's even doing. I mean, this meringue...

10. Noh Tae-hyun

11. Kwon Hyun-bin

Hyun-bin (and three other contestants) are MALE MODELS and the best part about their participation in Produce 101 is that no-one is under any illusion that they have real vocal/dance/rap talent - they're just there to be pretty. And maybe make dessert?

In conclusion, if you would like to watch an additional 87 videos of meringue mayhem, do click through to this playlist. After all, it should always be meringue time.
