WATCH – Your first Pacific Rim: Uprising teaser

Four years after Pacific Rim (see our review), we finally get our first look at the sequel: a Pacific Rim: Uprising teaser-cum-recruitment-ad that also gives us a brief glimpse of five new Jaegers.

It’s all very be-the-best-that-you-can-be, which befits a recruitment ad for the military, and ends off with Jake Pentecost (The Force Awakens‘ John Boyega) beseeching you to join the Jaeger Uprising.

According to MovieWeb, the teaser was released on new viral site GoJaeger.com, along with blueprints and technical details for five new Jaegers. We also know that the sequel is set 10 years after the events of the first movie, when Marshal Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba) sacrificed himself on January 12, 2025.

Here’s the synopsis:

“It’s been ten years since The Battle of the Breach and the oceans are still, but restless. Vindicated by the victory at the Breach, the Jaeger program has evolved into the most powerful global defense force in human history. The PPDC now calls upon the best and brightest to rise up and become the next generation of heroes. When the Kaiju threat returns, we will be ready.”

It’s a real pity that director Guillermo Del Toro won’t be joining the party this time around but former Daredevil show runner Steven S. DeKnight should do a fine job on the sequel. Meanwhile, here’s more details of the five new Jaegers:

  • Gipsy Avenger: The flagship leader of the Mark VI fleet, its name is an echo of Gipsy Danger, the Jaeger that sacrificed itself to seal the Breach.

  • Bracer Phoenix: a Mark V brute that can still run with the VI’s, Bracer Phoenix shoots from the chest with a centrifugal vortex cannon.

  • Saber Athena: the sleekest and most elegant Jaeger ever created, Saber Athena wields twin blades in hyper-acrobatic combat.

  • Titan Redeemer: built for brute force and armed with a seismic morningstar, Titan Redeemer is the walking wrecking ball of the new fleet.

  • Guardian Bravo: designed for combat at range, it wields the Elec-16 Arc Whip: a proto-metallic successor to the chainsword.
