Watch Daisy Ridley Cry During Star Wars: The Force Awakens Audition

Daisy Ridley was one of the many revelations in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ thanks to her performance as Rey. In fact, because of her portrayal the 23-year-old actress has catapulted from obscurity to a global superstar.

Sections of Ridley’s audition tape have been included in the home entertainment release for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’, which you can take a look at below. And once you do you’ll immediately see why she was cast.

In the above clip, J.J. Abrams explains that while they were “looking for someone new” they also needed the unknown actress to be able to portray “vulnerable, tough, sweet, terrified, and tough.” Which was a big ask.

However they finally knew that Daisy Ridley was their woman when she came in and nailed a particular scene that is set on the Starkiller Base and sees her being interrogated by members of the First Order.

During her audition J.J. Abrams explained that Daisy Ridley showcased a “depth of struggle” and had tears streaming down her face, all of which left the director entranced. Abrams was even more impressed when he asked her to do it again with a few adjustments and she was able to do so instantly.

At this moment, J.J. Abrams knew that Daisy Ridley was the only one capable of portraying Rey and doing her justice. Which is something that I’m sure she is eternally grateful for, as she’s now well on her way to becoming a member of the Hollywood elite.

We’ll next see Daisy Ridley as Rey in ‘Star Wars 8′ and ‘Star Wars 9′, while recent rumours have even teased that she’s being lined up to portray Lara Croft in ‘Tomb Raider’, too. Basically she’s living the dream.
