Watch a Ridiculously Real-Looking Human Torch Fly Around New York

Three years ago, a YouTube video that showed three human-shaped aircrafts flying around New York City quickly went viral. The clip was actually part of a promotional stunt for the 2012 found-footage superhero flick Chronicle — and now, that film’s director, Josh Trank, is back with Fantastic Four, an adaptation of the beloved Marvel comic book. So what better way to get people fired up for Four than by upping the ante and sending a human-sized flaming Human Torch around a darkened metropolis.

Yahoo Movies is the first to obtain the new, fiery footage of the sky-high Torch, a creation of the marketing agency Thinkmodo (you can watch the clip above). The clip was shot in Old Bethpage, Long Island, and required the support of local firefighters, who allowed Thinkmodo to shoot on their premises, to achieve a controlled environment. “We were able to dress up the surrounding buildings on fire, and write the ‘4’ from the movie’s logo on fire on the ground,” Thinkmodo co-founder Michael Krivicka tells Yahoo. “It was cool as hell.”

Not every aspect of the shoot was so fantastic: Thanks to unusually strong winds, the team ran through multiple flying Human Torches, with each one burning up in less than a minute. In the end, though, “we got it all done and it came out beautiful,“ says Krivicka. Flame on!

Fantastic Four goes ablaze in movie theaters starting Aug. 7.
