Those damn, dirty apes are set to get their stinking paws on us once again.

‘War of the Planet of the Apes,’ the third installment in the rebooted apocalyptic sci-fi series, is coming to cinemas next year – and now the first official synopsis for the sequel has been released by studio 20th Century Fox.

“In ‘War for the Planet of the Apes,’ the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel.

“After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.

“As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.”

Matt Reeves, director of 2014’s ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,’ is once again calling the shots, whilst the king of mo-cap performance Andy Serkis returns for a third time as Caesar.

Other cast members include Woody Harrelson, Judy Greer and Steve Zahn.

‘War’ will be the ninth feature film from the ‘Planet of the Apes’ franchise, which began with the 1968 classic starring Charlton Heston and spawned four sequels and two TV spin-off shows (one live action, one animated) in the 1970s.

The botched 2001 ‘Planet of the Apes’ from director Tim Burton failed to revive the franchise, but Rupert Wyatt’s 2011 reboot/prequel ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ brought it back to its former glory.

The first footage from ‘War for the Planet of the Apes’ will be shown next week at New York Comic Con, so we wouldn’t be too surprised if that shows up online not long thereafter.

The movie opens on 14 July 2017.
