"Walking Dead's" Tom Payne wants to play this "X-Men" mutant

Payne expressed his interest in replacing Hugh Jackman for the role

"The Walking Dead" star Tom Payne has voiced his interest in playing Wolverine.

15 Mar – Tom Payne, star of popular TV series "The Walking Dead", revealed that he would love to play Wolverine in upcoming "X-Men" movies.

"If they did recast the Wolverine part, I'd be well up for it," said Payne in an interview with TV Guide, eager to play the adamantium-clawed antihero.

Payne will have quite a few strong contenders, however. Ever since Hugh Jackman announced his last film as Wolverine will be "Logan", several actors such as Scott Eastwood and Keanu Reeves have voiced their interest in playing the Marvel character.

Payne, who plays Jesus in "The Walking Dead", doesn't think that his height – which, at 5 feet 7 inches, is slightly taller than Wolverine's 5 feet 3 inches (in the comics) – will be a problem. Jackman did after all get accepted by fans despite his 6 feet 11 inches build.

However, it is likely for Fox to let the character rest for a few years, especially as the studio is now focusing on its upcoming projects such as "Deadpool 2", "New Mutants" and Dafne Keen's planned "X-23" standalone movie.
